We've performed beyond expectations on 2 occasions this year and now there is an expectation that we are capable of playing like that every week and for the rest of the season. Our marquee player abandoned us without notice so we were always going to struggle. It didn't take long for the knives to come out but that is the least surprise of all at Parramatta. It's the hardest coaching gig in the NRL and since our fans never change that won't change. I just hope we finally allow a coach to see out his contract for once.
We beat the reigning Premiers convincingly, and took it to the Grand Finalists despite our injury toll. And in every other match, we've been garbage (bar round 1).
But we don't have the right to expect the team to perform to their potential every week? The fans never changing (because we expect much better than what we are being spoon-fed) is a key problem?
Granted, Hayne leaving was a massive blow - but a decent organisation always has contingencies in place. I mean, had Hayne stayed, he might have gotten injured for the season after round 1. If there was no viable plan B, then I have serious doubts about the management of this club.
But no - my expectations are too high. It's totally unreasonable to demand passion and pride every week from a club I devote so much time and money to. I'm clearly the problem with the Eels, and not the people (and I don't mean fans) who make excuses every year.
