Does Brad Arthur deserve the hype?

I think Brad Arthur's biggest issue is getting some kind of outcome out of 2014. From what I have witnessed from us and the other 15 teams in the NRL over the first 3rd of the season, we are a genuine bottom 4 team at the moment. If we finish bottom 4 and dare I say, in 16th position, he will be under immense pressure to keep his job if we start off 2016 in the same position.

I think BA is the first coach to attempt that. I really do. Hagan and Anderson basically let the players loose, it worked with the squad we had but when we were worked out we had no fall back. Kearney thought a game plan was something you introduced in the fifth year of a five year plan, Sticky talked a big game but really seemed to have no plan for the future.

People think Arthur is boring for being fixated on seemingly petty things like completion rates and missed tackles and penalties. I'm glad he is. The very first step to winning a footy game is valuing the damned ball. It might seem remedial, but it really is the focus on the basics that makes the top teams great and we have lacked that for years. We've lacked discipline and we've lacked respect and the willingness to earn the right to attack. It's a basic cornerstone of attitude, and I think it's both a sign of a coach who wants to change the attitude of the side, and a sign of how f**ked up this club actually got. Arthur genuinely for me seems to want to change the attitude of the side from the ground up. No other coach has given me that impression.

Kearney focused on ball control as well and the players mutinied, led by Reni Maitua.

Losing Hayne has become an excuse to justify where we are. I ain't buying that. The other 15 teams don't have Hayne either. They just have a better spread of players across the park and are coached accordingly. We on the other hand continue to play dumb, sporadic football.

Yes and no. I mean, Hayne was our general, remember. We didn't have the traditional halfback or five-eighth, and he wasn't perfect in the role, but he was. Our structure has clearly suffered because of it, and our halfback is being exposed because of it. It's a valid part of the whole, IMO.

He tried, yeah. But he never seemed to have the respect of the players and it didn't seem to last long, looking from the outside anyway. Beyond that he didn't have a clue about game plans though

Saved it for the Kiwi national team hey? Tactics are about the only thing a rep coach has control over.

Maybe he's like Mal, he was a pretty ordinary club coach too.

Tactics become a lot easier when you have the cream of the crop to carry them out. Rep coaching is as much about motivation and picking the right side.

Bush coach with no tactics or game plan.We are just like last year improved 0% from rnd 1 too rnd 26.We will be the same this year. Our best game will be our first game while other teams are warming up.And once there warm we will still be at that same level.
Last year teams started too work us out.Now we are using the same game plan a year later teams no what to do IMO.
We have that one attacking play where we use the fullback too create the overlap.Other than that well put up a bomb perhaps?
The BA thing i fear will end badly

So many gullable people who getting excited hearing seward promise all this Bull$hit. But at the end of the day its same $hit diff smell. Let young players go-Sign old has beens-sack coach-get new coach, just a cycle that's all. I miss the day of brian Smith team where we would have a great 9 mths of the year and it would end with 1 bad game in the finals.
I would take that over 9mths of $hit.
I hope i am wrong but honestly all the HYPE surrounding BA cause of the way he carries himself. He has proved nothing yet as a coach and talk off him beeing around for 10yrs is silly. If we arent top 8 next year he has to go.

As long as Joseph Paulo remains in First Grade then my opinion of Arthur is pretty low.
It gets even lower with his abysmal use of the interchange bench.

If he re-signs Sandow he's flat-out lost me.

Given your demonstrated intelligence is approximately akin to a tortoise that's missing fourteen chromosomes, the fact the you don't rate Arthur fills me with more confidence than anything on or off the field has so far.

f**k off to Penrith.

I am just pointing out some of you on here keep falling for the same trick.
I could imagine you Bazal watching the man with the cards picking the card you chose each time. And you giving him a dollar to watch it again.
Im just stating that - well face it a lot of you have watched too much hollywood movies and read to many papers.Sure my english skills may not come up to scratch with yours but i dont go and bag others on here out for having there own opinion- So F$%K YOU

Fact remains BA has average tactics and everyone just like SK- Ricky when they first come along gave themself hand shandies on how good they are. They believed the papers.
I call it as i see it. BA was made too look good last year due too Haynes form. This year he looks like a bush coach with no tactics and bad choice of bench.

Personally, I think you're the one falling for the same trick. Parramatta suck, fall into line with the fickle masses, bag the coach.

We've sucked under 8 successive coaches, none of whom have thus far showed any desire to actually change the basic grass roots attitude of the footy side. Arthur shows that, at the very least. His tactics also beat the premiers. We need to support this coach, not throw another sacrificial lamb to the slaughter in the search for some kind of mythical instant fix. If you're as smart as you believe you are, then you know this club basically got to the same kind of place Souths did. That's how shit things were.

I thought we where fine under Smith.
DA did not get a chance, Grand final one year then sacked the next.I was upest with this decision.

Sk was hopeless.Ricky walked but going well now.

BA i hope turns out well. But i wont be suprised if he does not work out. Next year he gets his man and his team .Top 8 or pi$$ him off.

We were fine under Smith for a while, but he got stale.

Anderson deserved a chance. So does Arthur. Anderson came into a side that was starting to slide but still had some good elements. Arthur has come in at the other end of that process AND lost Hayne this year. How is it any fairer to put him under pressure than Anderson?

I hope BA works out.I like the guy.I think if we fail to make the 8 next year with him having foran-watmough-scott.That are 3 representative signings and big names than his position should be looked at.
I am not sold on his coaching style. His team selections and his tactics. We may not have a great team this year without hayne but look at teams like the tigers-titans-saints and canberra. There rosters are not much better or even worse.

For a coach who wanted to focus on this type of play, he really f#cked up with his decision to sign the Sandclown.

Not at all. A half with a good long kick suits the territory/possession game. And even when playing that way you need someone with spark to add a bit of X factor. Sandow got a lot less ball in 2012 - he was just used after a (rare) quick play-the-ball or on the last tackle. Plus near the opposition line because nobody else had any ideas either with Hayne out injured.

Under Arthur, Sandow gets a lot more ball because we repeatedly attack the edges. That gives him more scope to make stupid decisions.

This is where I am at as well, what he sees in Sef I do not know. I just love our shape when he is on

And IDG on the bench makes no sense at all, meanwhile a talent like Tep is being wasted in the 20's.
