Does Brad Arthur deserve the hype?

Conservative High Percentage football is a major contributing factor on why the Melbourne Storm has been the best team of the last decade.

Storm are blessed to have 3 of the best players in the modern era so they can play this style. Trying to emulate the storm is beyond crazy unless we have the same calibre of players.

Do you think we play the same style as the Storm? They do almost everything one or two passes off the ruck. We make three or more passes in a play at least twice on every attacking set.

I think the main thing with stopping offloads is getting other defenders behind the attacker to cut off his options. Or even increase the risk of the offload leading to a mistake, interception or lost ground.

You need to get clue you stats obsessed fool. Idiots like yourself and our current coach and his mentor kearney, believe its all about stats and percentages, and all that bullshit.

Where has conservative, high percentage footy taken us since it was introduced by the great Kearney back in 2011?

Get over all this science crap and let the guys play some footy

You sound foolish.High risk footy is ok when your desperate. You cant play like that for 80 min every week. You may get a few big wins but most times you will get flogged.

Smart teams increase the risk pending on team they play.I notice this with Penrith. When they play easier team they play a simpler game but when play a better team they know they have to take more chances to win.Cause there not as good basically.
You need structure and having a smart playmaker who will know when you neeed to take the risks and when you don't.Sandow unfortunately doesn't know when its the right time to do a play.
Ive seen times where he has kicked for touch when we need points and clocks ticking. You think gee what is he thinking.Problem is he isn't thinking. He is just playing football.Cronk and other smart halfback can gauge not only when there team needs a break but also when the other team wants one and knows to amp up the attack. They find the weakness of the other teams. Then exploit it.

Teams know that if they complete their sets against us, then they will most probably win.
Look at our game against Souths. They completed something like 90% - they rarely do that. Especially when the Burgess brothers are good for about 5 dropped balls a game. But they knew they only had to play simple footy and take their chances when we stuff up.

I have at no point said to play high risk. I am saying that the players need to play whats in front of them and play some footy. They look overcoached and over conservative.

Offload when you have defenders struggling to wrap up the ball, Centres or wingers run from dummyhalf if there is an opportunity, or kick behind the defence etc

What im saying is play smart but back yourselves.

Obviously you cannot offload in every tackle at every circumstance, but they are skilled professional athletes and we the fans want to see skill and excitement, not this structured, corridor confining, overcoached, wrestling in the ruck slowing down crap.

Hardly a glowing endorsement.

Better when Weedler has an exclusive on what you think. Then at least you know your opinion of 6-12 months prior was correct

I really hope I am wrong on this, but Arthur has done not much to convince me he is long term material, some glaring chinks in the armour which we had under Kearney and Stuart are still there, and as I have said previously, a quality coach can transform a team in an offseason.

I really hope Arthur ends up being a great coach, but just our defensive lapses and geveral softness are still evident it seems...

Loosing to Canberra last year comfortably with season on the line was the first big red flag for me...

In Hasler's first year at Manly they won 9 games, in his 2nd year they won 12. It wasn't until his 3rd year did Manly win more games than they lost and even then Manly lost their 2 finals matches and the Round 26 clash so even in their third year Hasler couldn't get his team up for the final matches when it counted the most.

I agree that a good coach can turn some parts around in an off-season but let's not forget that Stuart quit on the 11th of September, and Arthur wasn't officially given the job until the 16th of October and I'm pretty sure at the time he was in Bali so he didn't have a lot of time to organise a proper pre-season for the 2014 campaign yet we went within 1 win of the finals series even though many tipped us to finish in the bottom 4. Even with the horror run of injuries in the past 2 games as well as that suspension we've been fairly competitive in the games and all 3 teams that we played were in the finals last season, and on Friday night we're going up against the current: NRL premiers, 9's premiers, Club Championship winners, and are currently undefeated this year.

I'm not saying BA is infallible either, I do however think that saying he isn't a long-term prospect based on what you've said is way off.
