Does Cleary leaving end our season?

Agreed. I'd rather he goes ASAP. I think the turnaround for a new appointment should be within 2 weeks. We know that a good coach will come out of Ackland, Iro or McClennan. They should be interviewing now. Once the interviewing is concluded, make the appointment, bugger Cleary off and let the new coach have a chance to go into the market as he sees fit for 2012.

The Club arent happy with Lance and he will see out the year with the Vulcans if his attitude doesnt improve

How bout his form? That needs a reasonable shake too. I was actually talking about Inu if you thought I meant Lance.

I don't think his job is untenable but I think there's not a lot to be gained in him staying, if they have their replacement in the crosshairs and he's ready to go.

If it's a longer process, then Ivan stays. If Iro/Bluey (whoever) is ready to go, get them in to take control and give us a headstart on 2012.

I don't blame the Panthers, I don't blame Gould. It's professional sport - you want your man, you go get him. I do blame Ivan, I do blame the club for all the lies and smokescreens.

I can't comment on whether it has affected the team because I'm not in it. But can we blame that for the last 20-30 mins v Tigers/Cowboys? I doubt it. But last week, with that sh*thouse team we put out, the basic errors etc..yeah maybe alarm bells go.

And you can bet your bottom dollar Simon Mannering is not the kind of leader to grab this situation by the balls and guide us through an uncertain time back to winning form and the eight. Doesn't have it in him.

You obviously know Mannering quite well as a person then and the captaincy he does away from actual game day?

I've seen him on the field, and at training, yes. I can see he's not that guy, and he may develop into such - I hope he does. But now, he ain't it. That's no big slight on a guy who is only in the first half of his 20s and has just over a year of captaincy under his belt.

All I'm saying is something like the Bulldogs & Coffs Harbour/salary cap scenario, when Pricey was inspirational as a leader in holding them together in turmoil (obviously quite different to this, a lot tougher) is beyond Mannering as a leader, at the moment.

It wasn't meant as a shot at him, which it may've seemed.

How old and experienced was Price when that happened though. No doubt Mannering isn't that level of leader. I doubt the 24 year old Price was that level of leader.

And before you say it, I do realise that's your point.

Have to sa though I do feel Mannering is copping some seriously harsh criticism just because he is captain, and I'd say the majrity of it is ver misguided from people who only see a minimal amount of what Mannering does during any given week.

Without being on the field during the game or behind the scenes off it, exactly what is it that people want to see Mannering do before he's considered captain material?

Yeah, I'm not criticising..merely saying if we are looking for someone to grab us by the collars and march us through the rest of the season, that guy isn't there.

I'm a massive Mannering fan. I don't know if he's played his best football for a while, probably because of a mix of weight of expectation of captaincy, being shunted around positions/sides of the field and certainly last year, burnout.

I don't think his captaincy is losing us games. He was always going to be a lead by performances captain and just at the moment he's in a slight dip in form. I think in a live for the now world Luck would've been skipper, but hey - when all our young stars peak in 2-3 years time, Simon should be an experienced and much more comfortable (c)

I would say Ivan is one step ahead of the posse. A couple of more losses with the Warriors and he would have been fired anyway. I am just glad he will be with the Panthers and not us next year. (And what happens if the Panthers don't fire next year?)

That said now is not a time to rush things. This year is gone. If we struggle into the 8 it won't last any further. Better to take a deep breath and make a wise decision for the future. Better to let the dust settle on Ivan before announcing our own appointment.

Things look like they might be taking Bluey seriously. This is good as I was concerned that there was a bit of animosity between him and the club. However, given the chance, I think the club should be exploring all the options available; not just the three named. We want a coach that can win us the championship; not just make the 8.

Message to Dean: I want at least one class centre signed ASAP.

Another season brought to a premature end. Roll on 2012.

Wouldn't be surprised if people power got Bluey the job. When there's a poll of over 2000 people and 88% vote Bluey, that's a massive thing to then turn away and say "nope".

I know the Warriors have more than 2000 fans, but it's a pretty strong indicator.

I think it would be fair to put the coaching issue to the members too...

Absolutely no way! That would be suicide. Democracy and involvement is one thing, but what t f would half the members actually know about winning NRL games. Selecting the coach is the job for the management. They have to work out the structure, whether they can fund and organise what a coach wants, achieve the development etc etc.

Bloody hell, listening to what a lot of people on here say and think scares me enough, let alone having members VOTE for the coach.......

I don't mean some American Idol style popularity contest, but a definite take of popular consensus from real fans should be a very real factor in this decision.

I have to disagree. As someone said, fans don't know what it takes to win a premiership. Fans don't know what goes into the day-to-day coaching of an NRL side.

The club will select the coach they believe will win the most games. If this is Ricky Stuart over Bluey McClennan, then they'll do it (just an example, don't read anything into it). At the end of the day, the fans will - or at least should - like the coach that will get the best results.

No, but fans will vote with their attendance and support of the club. They would be silly dismiss us fans entirely, or at least make us feel included.

As I say, the thing that fans would be most after would be results. Therefore, the club will appoint a coach on that basis.

They wouldn't completely dismiss the thoughts of the fans but I doubt it'd play much part in their decision.

Bluey's the crowd favourite to take over. He is also available & keen to do the job.

It will be a major mistake if the club ignore this.
