Dolphins home grounds confirmed. Seven Suncorp games, three Redcliffe, two undecided. Will not be hosting Magic Round.

https://www.qrl.com.au/news/2022/09/15/dolphins-commit-to-seven-games-at-suncorp/
Interesting, they were advertising a 2 game membership at Sunny Coast until recently, maybe the deal with the local council has fallen through? That membership is no longer available. They've also dropped the stand alone Redcliffe 3 games membership and now you can only buy a 10 game membership if you want to see the games at Dolphin stadium.

They've certainly added a premium on to the Dolphin stadium games. For example a Silver membership is 7 games at suncorp $26 a game. If you get the ten game silver the extra 3 games cost $47 each!

That is weird. Are the ticket prices cheaper at Suncorp because they are giving discounts on travel etc? It makes no sense to charge more for entry to a small suburban ground than to Suncorp?

I guess supply and demand, they must think the Dolphin stadium games will be in high demand and I suppose its one way of pushing northern folk to buy suncorp games if that's the only way of seeing them at Dolphin stadium?

If Sunshine Coast falls through they’ll probably play those games in regional Queensland.
Rockhampton would make sense given the Capras link up, but end of day it will be wherever pays otherwise they may as well play them at Redcliffe or Suncorp.
Its a shame the original 16k stadium plan for Rocky stadium got scaled back to 10k.

I'd like to know who will have access to the deck at the leagues club end on game day in 2023.

Will it be leagues club members only? Corporate stooges?

It's not the link, but it is most likely the same story.

Controversial code-hopping star Israel Folau is reportedly set to build a new house just two kilometres from the Dolphins new training base in Redcliffe, but the club insist he will not be finishing his career with the expansion franchise.

The Dolphins have been steadily building out their squad for their first NRL season in existence, with players beginning pre-season under super coach Wayne Bennett in recent times.

Star outside back Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and ex-Wests Tiger Oliver Gildart have been the club's latest signing to bump up a backline which also features Jamayne Isaako, Euan Aitken, Edrick Lee, Brenko Lee, Robert Jennings and young gun Valynce Te Whare, who set the QLD Cup alight during the 2022 campaign.

While there is little doubt a player like Folau could slot straight into the side, there is still the question of the NRL registering any such contract given his controversial actions off-field previously.

ARLC chairman Peter V'Landys has previously stated that any registration attempt would be considered though, and with Newscorp reporting that Folau is building a house just two kilometres from the club's training base, speculation has been fueled.

However, club chairman Terry Reader said the club have not spoken to Folau or his management.

“I'm not surprised Israel might be building a house in Redcliffe,” Dolphins boss Reader said.

“As some of our new signings have already found out, it is a great place to live, only 20 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Brisbane's CBD.

“However, the Dolphins have not spoken to Israel or his management and he is not in our plans.”

Folau, who played in the English Super League with the Catalan Dragons in 2020, has since played for Southport in the Gold Coast rugby league competition, and, since 2021, with Urayasu D-Rocks in Japanese rugby union.

He is set to turn 34 in April though and could have been eyeing off a final swansong in the NRL after he started his career in the sport back in 2007 with the Melbourne Storm.

He made his Australian debut at the end of his rookie season, and played for Queensland in State of Origin the following year, representing the Maroons five times and Australia eight times before exiting to play AFL in 2011 following two years with the Storm, and two with the Broncos, where he scored 73 tries in just 91 games.

different story, there’s no mention of why they aren’t playing two games on Sunshine Coast in that?

The Dolphins have explained their decision to play as many home games in Perth as they will on the Sunshine Coast in their debut NRL season.
Last week’s release of the 2023 NRL draw revealed the Redcliffe expansion club will play a round 23 “home” game against Newcastle at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

The match is part of a double-header to promote rugby league in Western Australia, with the Rabbitohs and Sharks to feature in the second game on Saturday, August 5.

The WA Government has paid big money to host NRL games, like it did for Origin II this year, and the Dolphins will pocket a bonus for taking a home game to Perth.

Part of the Dolphins’ pitch to secure the NRL’s 17th licence was that they would make the Sunshine Coast region part of their catchment.

The club vowed to split its home games between Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Moreton Daily Stadium at Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast Stadium.

But the Sunshine Coast has only secured one Dolphins “home” match for 2023, with the team to play seven at Suncorp, three at Redcliffe and one in Perth.

Dolphins CEO Terry Reader said they were helping grow the game during the period in which Suncorp is unavailable due to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We worked with the NRL to be part of a day of rugby league in Western Australia and play at Perth’s Optus Stadium, highlighting an example of a new and commercially successful expansion team,” he said.

“In 2023 the Dolphins brand will be spread across Queensland and Australia.

“We will play NRL games and trials in eight Queensland cities and regions including Brisbane, our spiritual home at Redcliffe, the Sunshine Coast, Gladstone, Cairns, Bundaberg, Gold Coast, Townsville, Perth, Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga and Auckland.”

Not looking good for memberships with the dolphins now having to split the 10 game membership and go back to offering a 3 game Redcliffe membership plus SC. Obviously couldnt sell 12k of them.

The Dolphins will release two more membership options this Friday, with the launch of a four-game ticket taking in our games at Redcliffe’s Moreton Daily Stadium (three) and the Sunshine Coast (one), while a three-game Flexi membership to matches at Suncorp Stadium will also become available.

So the Dolphins are playing three games at Dolphin Oval and seven at Lang Park. Two will be played elsewhere.

There's only 10k seats at Dolphin Oval. They'll probably average 9k to each of those games.

They'll need to draw an average of 20k to their games at Lang Park to nudge their season average over 14k.

This is why they shouldn't be playing at Dolphin Oval.
