You said Smith would equal mediocrity. Those are your words. More or less the same as saying he cant coach (which, to be fair, I didnt accuse you of saying)

Well done to Taylor for getting to the 8. Did you notice he was sacked by that club too?

Anderson made a grand final. He is also not obviously available, having had out-of-coaching jobs for the past 2 years.

Henry would be my preference if we had to get a.local coach. But lets be serious, he hasnt been part of the QLD team for 4 years, he coached a superstar team for years and made the finals twice, he also would have a spoon to his name if Storm werent caught cheating. And his current team are 10th and falling. Hes no prized catch.

Who says ESL is easier to coach? The game is slightly different, but the Top 4 ESL teams would easily knock off half (if not more) of the NRL comp. One of those teams is Smith's, another is Brownies. I'd definitely take the former of those over most of the proven failures who cant land a head coach role in the NRL.

He would not because he is bad coach because he will become a Dousty drinking buddy i.e. Price, Brown. Doust needs to focus on signing players and fixing our (let's be honest) crappy leagues club. The team selection is none of his business.

Yes Taylor left the club on bad terms I can't dispute that but up until McGuire he was easily the most successful coach at the club in the last 20 years and he was good without Inglis, Burgess & Reynolds etc.

How do you know he is unavailable has he stated it? Has anyone approached him? People will do almost anything if the price is right and for the record he made 2 GF's before he took over the Warriors they had accomplished nothing.

No arguments with Henry I would personally take him before Smith but that is merely a preference and I have already stated why I'd rather him.

I think you just need to look at the quality (or lack thereof of the comp) not to mention that mnay coaches had great success over there but it has not come together for them in the NRL going from memory only Elliot was a hit there and a miss in the NRL, Raper another one, Shaun McRae I believe, McClennan. happy to be corrected about some of those guys going from memory only there.

Dude, Price didnt fail because he was close to Doust, he failed because he isnr up to coaching first grade. Likewise, Brown failed because e was too close to the players, having played first grade with them. I honestly believe Smith, and others, would have the experience and knowledge necessary to keep Doust out of it.

As for ESL coaches failing, not necessarily true. Raper was one. Daniel Anderson coached in ESL and he is one of your arguments for a good coach. McLennan - I still think he could be good, he was placed in charge of a Warriors team that is run by the players, they didnt respond to his tough love style, was a stitch up from the start! Other ESL coaches have done very well, including Trent Robinson and Michael Maquire. And Smith has been more successful in ESL than both of those guys.

Tony Smith plays down rumours he's about to swap Warrington for St George Illawarra

Warrington coach Tony Smith has played down reports that he is set for an imminent return to Australia but has revealed he is in talks over his future with club owner Simon Moran.
The former England boss, who is the longest-serving coach in Super League, is currently being linked with his former club St George Illawarra, who recently parted company with head coach Steve Price and placed Paul McGregor in charge to the end of the season.
'I'll have a little bit of news in the next week or so but that's unlikely to be it,' Smith said. 'I'm working through some stuff with Simon at the moment.'

'I've enjoyed working so far at Warrington and a huge part of that is who I work for. I've got a huge respect for Simon and I'm enjoying it what we're doing there and what we're building.
'There are new challenges that are arising each and every year, it feels like we're re-inventing ourselves all the time so there are new challenges for me.

'At the moment I'm not going anywhere. Enjoying what I'm doing.'

Don't know if there is any truth in this but heard from a mate that Matt Parish might have been discussed as possible coach.

Wayne would be ideal but it would also be a pipe dream, it'll be the second coming if he were to rebuild what he first built 2009.

We definitely should not go for another rookie coach for next season in what will be most likely a build up season. But I would have no qualms in having Matt Parish come on board as an assistant and go from there.

Agree ,we need an experienced coach to make the tough /easy decisions to rebuild our squad.
Easy I mean we have a few forwards who some have named here as a no brainer to offload.

Your entitled to believe what you wish, I agree Price was not up to to it as a FG coach but the facts are he was close to Doust, yes Brown was to close to the players but how did he get the job? Jobs for the boys that's why, plus he had a roster he did not play with in 2007-2008 and how did he perform? Worse, so that was clearly not the key issue.

I did not state that all ESL are failures just that they tend have more success over there as opposed to the NRL in most cases. There are a few exceptions to the rule and I agree with you about McClennan I'd like to see him given another chance, what he did with the NZ team in 2005 was nothing short of impressive.

Yeh not sure about this. I heard he only got the NSW Assistant job after lobbying by Alan Jones of all people.
