So why replace shit with more shit??
Would Hayne be my number 1 choice to replace Lafai? No. There are plenty of other better options.
But if given the choice of Lafai or Hayne its gotta be Hayne. A gamble yes, but we know what we get from Lafai. Pure, utter reserve grade quality consistently year in year out. Enough already with this bloke.
Hayne is up and down like a yoyo but fact is he has won Daley M and has been a weapon at times, Lafai has always been shiiiiiiiit.
Go Dragons but.

At first my response was No. But after giving it some further thought. I would take him and play him centre with Lomax the other centre. If Dufty doesn't improve his deficiencies then I would consider moving Hayne to fullback.

I previously said that Hayne could have a toxic effect on the team. The teams he has played for has collected numerous wooden spoons. He went to the Gold Coast and they looked to have a top 8 team the addition of Hayne, but the next year they were pathetic and Hayne was mentioned as having a negative effect. He is definitely better than Lafai, Aitken, and any other wingers we currently have. I also wouldn't be paying him anything more than 450K a year. I don't think he has recaptured the form he was in before he went to play gridiron, but if he could, then he would be welcome addition to our team. He may even see a window of opportunity to win a comp with us.

I think his days of being shot at are over but he’s still facing the os rape charge isn’t he?

But he’s foreman material as a player, as a draw card etc, he’s profitable.

I’d be offering him 700 less $10k a day he’s in the us standing trial. Balance of dough back if he’s imprisoned or pleads the fifth.

Rival club reportedly weighing up move for Jarryd Hayne

Scott Pryde

The St George Illawarra Dragons are said to be eyeing off an off-season move for out-of-contract Eels back Jarryd Hayne.

Channel Nine’s The Mole is reporting the Dragons are considering making a play for the former representative star with pre-season training just a few weeks away.

Hayne is still yet to receive an official offer for a spot on an NRL roster at the Eels or any other club.

Just last week, Eels CEO Bernie Gurr told both AAP and Triple M that there were issues behind the scenes holding off the Eels offering Hayne a new contract, who is said to be frustrated by what is seemingly a breakdown in negotiations between the two parties.

Hayne had a poor 2018 season after switching back to his former club, having previously spent a short spell at the Gold Coast Titans. That followed his previous failed bid at both the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and rugby sevens, where he attempted to make the Olympic Games squad with Fiji.

Since returning to the NRL, he spent two lacklustre seasons at the Titans, struggling with injury at times, before being shipped off to the Eels where his role in a poor side wasn’t locked down for any length of time.

He played multiple positions in the backline, but his form, along with the rest of the blue and gold, wavered throughout the season.

It’s understood that with no contract on the table for the maligned former star, the Dragons are looking at the prospect of offering him a reduced contract to fit in under the salary cap, with the plan being for Hayne to either play fullback or centre.

The move would shape as an interesting one, given Matt Dufty has locked down the fullback role, while Timoteo Lafai, Euan Aitken and Zac Lomax are in contention for the centre slots at the Red V.

Dragons reportedly consider bid for off-contract Eels star Jarryd Hayne
Staff writers, FOX SPORTS
October 17, 2018 5:39pm
ST GEORGE Illawarra are reportedly considering a making a play for off-contract Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne.

According to Wide World of Sports, the Dragons may make Hayne a “modest offer to test the waters”.

Hayne remains without a deal for 2019 and recently revealed over social media yet was still waiting on an offer from the Eels.

Eels chief executive Bernie Gurr stated on Tuesday that the club wished to keep Hayne on next season.

The club told foxsports.com.au on Wednesday that position hasn’t changed.

Following the release of Nene Macdonald to North Queensland and the retirement of Jason Nightingale, the Dragons have been looking to sure-up their outside backs.

They recently announced the signings of Brisbane flyer Jonus Pearson and Canberra’s Mikaele Ravalawa on two-year deals, but the club’s recruitment boss Ian Millward said they were still on searching the player market.

Could Jarryd Hayne be in a Dragons jersey next season?

“We are still on the lookout but we want to be patient once again. We don’t feel at the moment what we’re looking for is currently out there,” Millward said earlier this month.

“We have certain criteria that we’re looking at and we don’t want to compromise ourselves by signing someone just to make up the numbers.

“We’re really excited about the players we’re bringing in — keeping in mind that Zac Lomax is an outstanding prospect — but we’re still on the lookout for one more player.”

The Dragons have been contacted for comment.

Dragons ready to make shock swoop for Jarryd Hayne
Adrian Proszenko17 October 2018 — 8:28pm

St George Illawarra have emerged as a shock contender for the services of Jarryd Hayne if the cross-code star can’t strike a deal with Parramatta.

The Eels are due to return to training in less than a fortnight but Hayne remains unsigned. While the club is keen to retain the former NSW and Australian back, they need to move players in order to make it happen.

The Eels are attempting to offload several big-name players including Corey Norman, Mitchell Moses, Bevan French, Brad Takairangi and Michael Jennings. Jennings has been offered up to Newcastle, one of the few clubs that still have money remaining under the salary cap.

Hayne took to social media to express his frustration that the Eels are yet to table him an offer.

“5 weeks still waiting for a contract??” Hayne Tweeted recently.

Hayne’s situation isn’t lost on the Dragons, who could swoop should he slip through Parramatta’s grasp. The Red V believe they could cobble together a deal worth about $500,000 – the same amount Hayne was on last season - in what would be a stunning coup.

The Dragons have an outside back spot to fill after Nene Macdonald signed a three-year deal with North Queensland and Jason Nightingale called time on his career.

Hayne took a mammoth $700,000 pay cut to return to the blue and golds after a failed stint on the Gold Coast. Despite the salary sacrifice, there was some scepticism about the move given his messy exit from the Titans.

But after overcoming injuries, Hayne showed glimpses of his brilliant best, justifying the gamble and seemingly doing enough to earn another contract.

The Eels remain hopeful of sorting out a deal, but the interest from the Dragons will apply additional pressure to make it happen quickly.

I think we will see Hayne in a Saints jersey next year. He could occupy the centre position until Marsters is ready to take over?

Good to know you have some spare coin.

The coaching upheavals might throw a few players adrift in the coming months, you could tough it out and wait for some youth quality to rear it’s ugly head from one of these more turbulent precincts.

Some players get very good very quickly.

Hayne is good novelty value but brings a lot of baggage.

Sure hope Parra sign Hayne quick smart before recruitment make a decision we will all regret.

$500,000 per season for a player who is lucky to play 3-4 good games per year is not what Saints need.

He is rarely motivated, often injured and always a disruptive influence to any club he has ever played at.

A big no thanks from me.

His agent pulling the “ Andrew Johns off to Union” malarky.

Once he signs up with the eels, a 18 year old lattrell protege from Cooma turns up at win stadium with a note around his neck.

“I am a back. Please introduce me to Mary”

The fact it only says we are considering making an offer makes me think this is a whole lot of nothing.

But I would love for it to happen. Hayne stood out in a poor Eels team and lead the way on multiple occasions, surely he can see next year will be more of the same.

If Hayne wants to retire with a chance of a premiership he will be drawn to Dragons more than Eels. And playing as part of a team where he's not the go to guy and behind a dominating forward pack would surely benefit him even more

And for under 500k, I'm all for it

I really think there maybe a “smokescreen” here and of one of:
Moses
Norman
Guttherson
French
May end up at Dragons..(whichever one is the bargain deal).
Anyone of these 4 are guns and far out perform whatever stocks we have .. must remember they just paid Fergusson $650k a year!!!!

I actually think he would be good for dragons for the right price.. Can play 1 3 or 5 and would add a bit of X factor to our very underwhelming backline that has no speed or dangerous ball runner..need his expirence to

It's a no from me as I don't believe he's a team player and his reputation concerning poor training habits & accepting instruction is a warning sign. Too much baggage for Mary to handle & carry on his JetSki.
I also believe he'll remain at the Eels and be a bottom dweller.
