No way Possm..you are kidding. So close....pffttt.
So that means you were happy with all the squad and coaching staff of 2018. a younger Sims replaces Ah Mau, at least equal or could be a +. Herbert never played 1st grade so that's a guess and no loss. McDonald I have said enough about him on here and he is a liability at times as much as he is a benefit. I see that as a +. So we are in front from 2018 still and 1 more back to come. 1 more forward prior to June 30 maybe
Sorry I can't agree:
If Ah Mau stayed and we recruited K Sims our pack would be much stronger. Let go Latimore and Allgood and if need be another ISP prop and we should be right as far as forwards go.

In the backs, if we kept Macdonald and Herbert but let go Aitken and Lafai we would have a much stronger backline.

1. Dufty
2. Pearson
3. Lomax
4. Mann
5. Macdonald
6. Widdop
7. Hunt

8. Vaughan
9. McInnes
10. Graham
11. T Sims
12. Frizell
13. De Belin

14. Robson
15. Ah Mau
16. K Sims
17. Leilua

A very strong side and possibly a better side than we will end up with for 2019.

so... herbert is a 'must keep' for you, yet he doesn't feature in the top 17...

makes sense...

ISP
1. Herbert - backup for Dufty
2. Pereira - backup for Pearson
3. Aitken - backup for Lomax
4. Lafai - backup for Mann
5. New winger - backup for Macdonald

Not a bad list of depth players in ISP. If Aitken and Lafai request a release, then their replacement to back up in the centres.

Ah Mau wanted to return to family, and we probably would have overpaid to match a family offer.

McDonald wanted to return to family, but there may have also been more to his release behind the scenes.

More importantly, I see no reason to keep a player who has desires elsewhere, so a release on compassionate grounds is a good thing for everyone

Ah Mau was off contract anyway

Thank you, grew up for first nineteen years there, parents settled there in 1943, settle on the family home on Monday that dad purchased i75 years ago. Freezing cold in winter, I usd to get chilblanes in my hands riding a motorbike, hated it. Came to the eastern suburbs of Sydney in 1975 and loved it. If Cotric wants to leave I can understand and there is no better place for him than with the mighty Dragons.
I spent a week in Canberra recently, first time in 30+ years even though I’ve driven past it countless times. I was blown away. It’s changed enormously and I was very impressed. Quiet cosmopolitan and trendy in the City, nice in the burbs, the new trams will be excellent and if not for the cold winters I could live there easily over Sydney. I have a son that now lives there and the youngsters (20’s) love it.

read this earlier today and thought someone would have made a comment by now seeing as it is relevant to the thread.

Knights recruitment plans impacted by Hayne scandal
..........That development will likely see St George keep Mann now that Hayne is no longer on the table, forcing Brown and the Knights to look elsewhere in an attempt to bolster their roster.
“Everyone’s quite aware that we’ve had an interest in Kurt,” Brown told Macquarie Sports Radio on Tuesday. “Obviously the Dragons were happy for us to have an interest in Kurt as long as they could replace him.

“If you had have asked this time a week and a half ago, I would have said there would have been a likelihood of it (Mann going to Newcastle) happening pretty quickly.

“But obviously with the Jarryd Hayne situation, the Dragons have got no replacement for Kurt, so they really fancy their chances with the squad they’ve got and they can’t let Kurt go unless they find a replacement.”.........

This story indicates that the Dragons were very close to signing Hayne.
Nathan Brown and Mann would have been up to date with the progress of talks as it impacted on their negotiations.
I think that it was a matter of days before Hayne realised he was not going to get any more than 500K and he would have signed.
Apparently someone was coming!
Those that persistently claimed to know that it was not a possibility must have known about the sexual assault but kept it to themselves.
Its OK to disagree but to ruin a thread discussion by continually repeating the same negative comment is very annoying.
Say it once or twice and then wait till you think of something else to contribute to the thread.

I'm pleased this all happened before we signed Hayne and released Mann. I hope Mann will not be unhappy playing at the Dragons if we do not release him? I feel he never reached his potential under McGregor and he probably thinks the same. If we were to release him this would free up even more money to chase an experienced in peak form back. The problem is there are none available for 2019.

same, Im damn rapt manns staying, he should be a permanent centre OR winger.... Aitken and Laughfai shouldnt be anywhere near first grade unless theres an injury

Dufter
Pearson
Lomax
Mann
Periera
Widdy
Hunty

this backlime would sure be solid with a lot of points in it as they ALL play an aggressive attacking game

He was given a shot at fullback this year. I thought he would go well there, but it didn't turn out to be much of a success. He was moved back to wing or centre.

I’m not sure if it was about that. I think it was more about the balance in the team and how much time Abbey could play at fullback. They were scrambling trying to make the 8 with changes every other week. They had Wighton and Croker our obviously.

They have three players who all have preference for left centre in Croker, Wighton and Cotric. So just depends on how long they want to play together.

So, first you say we “let go” aitken & lafai, but now you have them in ISP?

They are on the books right now with two years to go on thsir contract. Of course if Aitken and Lafai ask for a release, let them go. But I doubt that either would be of interest to another NRL Club.

Then replace them like for like. And take a look at last season and improve on the players that failed to deliver.
