Dragons chasing Mitchell Pearce

I could think of worse players to chase. He has a great kicking game and is a tough half back.

Given the lack of halves around I would certainly take him, as long as he wasn't demanding ridiculous money.

He will be.
But once the new TV deal is signed, there will be a number of $1MILL+ players in the NRL, similar to what has happened in AFL.
So if we got him for <$600K that might turn out to be a bargain.

Agree, I guess what I meant was as long as we didn't have to have a big player cleanout to get him.

something tells me the club is not so certain about Soward staying on past the end of next year - Kyle is most certainly in the clubs halves plans so is the writing on the wall regarding Sowie? The Cronk move smelt of that for mine.

We will have cap flex:
- Young
- Scott
- Hornby (2013 retirement?)
- Cooper (2013 retirement?)

And I'm sure a bit of space here and there. We have the coin it just depends if we spend it this year for 2013 or wait and make a play.

Good signing if we can pull it off. It might be tough considering the Chooks are/have SBW in their ranks. Alot of players may want to stay & play with him, but the Chooks might be squeezing out a few to accomdate him.

I think its unlikely he'll go, unless his relationship with Smith is stained & Politis has a say in the matter too.

Sowie will be 29 at the end of next year, so you can't blame him for looking to close out his career with some big bucks.

Pearce will still only be 24 then, with his best years possibly ahead of him (especially if he joins us :D).

I think the journo is right, except for the year. With SBW joining them next year, the Roosters will need some cap relief in 2013 (not 2014).
And with Sowie heading to the U.K. early, we need a half-back, pronto.
Win-Win.

I will be suprised if this is not Matt Cooper's last season.

I read a report in the Sunday paper (telecrap from memory) a few weeks back that mentioned Pearce was unhappy at the Rorters and wanted out of the last year of his contract. Although the editorial made no direct reference to a potential move to the Dragons, It does however give some credibility to the SMH editorial today. Pearce is a class player, I'd love to see him in the mighty Red V.

Not too worried about this. Price has come out and said he is going to groom Kyle. Anyways, let's get through this years campaign.

If he does come over he better fix up that bullshit attitude of turning up when he feels like it.
