Dragons Fans... What are your superstitions?

It's game day... there's eager anticipation as you are heading to the game, propped yourself at the pub, or on your lounge as the telecast starts of the Dragons Vs Whoever..

What do you do/don't you do on game day to ensure the Dragons win or to not curse the Dragons into the abyss of a howling spirit-crushing defeat...??

I've got two;

1 - I NEVER Record Dragons games if I'm unable to watch live on Telly. I have a historical record of about a 0W-12L Record here..

2 - I try to ensure my better-half is wearing her Dragons Jersey no matter where she is or what she's doing.. briefly explained.
  • She's from Adelaide & Never watched NRL til this year
  • Bought her a Dragons Jersey and took her to the Dragons v Knights game @ WIN this season, we won..
  • Joked she should always wear her jersey whenever we are playing...
  • All times since then when she has worn it - Dragons Won..
  • The Three times she hasn't... you guessed it... Dragons have lost..
  • Prompts now alerted leading into game day whether I'm with her or we're apart.
  • Has received many strange looks - inc recently when at the movies with her friends in downtown Adelaide going to watch a chick flick donning the Big Red V - meanwhile back in Mudgee we beat the Raiders..
So... what are yours......??

I steal as many hubcaps as I can before kick off.

Unfortunately due to the prevalence of factory mag wheels I’ve had to resort to pinching the rubber blades out of windscreen wipers.

To anyone who’s unfortunately been left with scratchy metal things going over their windscreen on a rainy day, thank you for helping us to 1st place this year.

I knew a lady who's de facto husband wanted her to wear her Wests jersey on game day too, as he thought that Wests chances of winning were better if she was wearing it.

Last time I wore a Dragons Jersey to a game was the 1975 Grand Final. And we know what happened there. I’ve never worn the Big Red V to a game since that day. Yes, I wear gear that clearly identifies me as a Saints fan but can’t bring myself to wear our jersey to a game since that tearful day as a 14 year old watching my all time favourite, Chang, have the worst game of his life in one of the most important games of his career. (We since found out why but it didn’t help dull the disappointment at the time). I was there in 77 (both games) and 79 and didn’t wear the jersey. And we won. I thought briefly about turning up to the 2010 GF in the Red V but changed my mind. And we won. So next time?..,

Mine are a bit odd - I do not read the weekends pre game tips for the match or anything to do with the Dragons chances . I cannot stand looking at some of the faces of those sports writers who presume to know more about the Dragons than we who are actual fans . Only after the game is over , will I read all correspondence smugly thinking to myself that the Dragons were a far better team then predicted by those in the media who presume to know better .

If I am not at the game or watching it live then I refuse to listen to it on radio or in fact listen to the radio at all in case a sports update is given as I want to see the replay without knowing the result.
For some unknown reason I think by cheering or yelling at them in person or on the TV screen something good will happen whereas when listening to the radio no matter how hard I yell I can have no positive influence so I switch it off.

I have got a mate who is a Manly fan, who thinks that the predominately white jersey with the maroon hoops is bad luck.

My superstition is that if l only pour one gin & tonic at the start of the game ........... I'll get thirsty for more.
Being intravenously feed really is a godsend.
If only l could get the Mrs to cut the grass, after she washes the cars on the weekend, before she takes the rubbish to the tip.

All jokes aside, I don't have a good track record with donning the big red V jersey.
I now wait till we have a good lead before l put it on.

Sometimes. it sits next to me, watching the game unfold, never to be worn in anger.

Since you asked...

1. wear red underwear....VITAL!

2. wear pizza socks....ESSENTIAL!

3. never look at the opposition by name in Big League.

4. always walk up and down the pathway outside Kogarah Oval looking at the fantastic players from yesteryear; but more importantly, pause momentarily in front of Robert Stone, and thank him for his involvement which ensured that Saints still play at the best home ground in the NRL.

(This is followed by a little pat on the brickwork and the words, "let's get a win today, Stoney")

and,

5. utilise reverse, reverse psychology (where possible) in discussing the Dragons chances for any given match.

1. Lucy our dog isn't allowed in front of the tele on game day,
About 11 times I have sat with her, 11 losses. She was put in another room 2010 GF, rest is history.

2. My wife is from South Australia, every time she praised or asked asked questions about the dragons, we lost the next week. She is not allowed to discuss our team, just sport in general.

3. The Dragons jersey and the flag must be hung straight, if they lean a little, there is a bad scramble to straighten them.

If they lean to the left, our left side defence is always shite

They are now checked every hour on game day.

I call BS on the dog post above.
Who counts how many times their dog sits in the room during a game of footy and after 11 times and 11 losses says thats enough?
BS for sure. I call BS on points 2 and 3 also.

When I was a kid (in the 90's) I had a St.George flag that, due to a family connection at the time to Jason Stevens, was signed by the '94 team.

Years latter, I was told at school that when going into battle it was seen as bad luck for a flag to touch the ground.

During the '99 season I adopted this way of thinking and that flag didn't touch the ground once. My whole family knew the rules and happily obliged. That was until half time of the Grand Final.

I went to the toilet and left the flag with my Sister. My cousin asked to wave it and my sister said no and then after a bit of begging she eventually said ok but told her the rules to not let it touch the ground. So, my @$#*ing cousin decided to be a smart ass and say 'what'll happen' and dragged it along the floor.

I came back from the bathroom and was told about this act of war against St.George and gave her a big telling off and...well, we all know what happened next.

I have blamed her ever since.
