Dragons Head Of Recruitment

Whilst missing out on POS, there are factors that need to be thought through before berating the Club.

In some way, I'm both disappointed and at the same time ok with not getting his signature.

There's no doubt he is a recruitment specialist, however, there is bad blood between him and certain Board members, that would have laid heavily on his decision. Further, in the opposite court, is his alleged involvement in some, let's say, no so couture deals in the past.

I'm not sure the Dolphins are on their knees, wanting him to stay either. Throw in of course Wayne could have brought him to the Rabbits, that didn't happen either.

Food for thought.
Yes, certainly food for thought there Dragonslayer. My thoughts and the postings I have made are just based on the disappointment of seeing the club miss out on another person. You have brought some good reasons into it now, so my disappointment has mellowed.

Well at least we still have the clout of Haran to keep picking up the crumbs & offcuts and the club saved finances.
One day, I live in hope we might jag a complete left field surprise and nail something significant. Dream On!

This news is extremely frustrating and another target missed. Taruuva to Tigers, AFB to Sharks, Finefinuku (whatever) to Dolphins, POS to Knights etc. The list goes on and on. It seems people would join anyone else bar Saints. As soon as Saints are linked, any club makes an offer (for less cash too mind you some of these) and they chose the other club. Is Saints that bad of a club?

As a sponsor I would be hugely concerned with this and would like some experience in the R&R asap as whoever is there is clearly failing and should be gone. Also as a sponsor, seeing your most popular player these days in Lomax leave for 200k less would also be a huge concern. He is one of the prime marketing chips walking out the door. I hope Lomax names and shames any of the Management guys next season as his reason to leave. That would be something we can hope that happens and if it does we can then thank Lomax for doing this but it is sad he had to leave the club to do so.

There needs to be change up above ASAP as there clearly are some huge issues that everyone within the NRL knows about with Saints making them the worst team to be part of these days. I mean Dogs are going to court for lack of duty of care for a young fella leading to mental illness and had 20+ guys shafted and are still preferred to Saints as a place to go.

I am sure if the Bye had a team the players, coaches or R&R dudes would rather join them than Saints, aren't they lucky they don't have a team.

In response to Para 1. Yes
Yes we are because managers and many high profile commentators and NRL football brains know we have poor football club leadership and a non innovative board willing to take risks V reward
People are not being advised to link up.. just yet FACT
Flanno is doing it sol ATM but needs help from a smart well linked operator

POS is a HUGE miss. The rebuild will still happen, but much slower.
Will all depend on who they look at as their next target, and whether that person is available now or not until the end of this season.
I still think Scott Fulton is worth another look.
Has a solid track record of getting deals done, and not sure if we will ever know exactly what went wrong that lead to his exit from the Tigers.
Just as a side note.
Interesting that Carayannis mentioned last Saturday that one of the main differences between the Knights and Dragons offers for O'Sullivan was the Knights apparently see him as the man to clean up their roster and get their salary cap back in shape.
The Dragon's offer was very much more about having plenty of cap space and wanting to spend it on a few big name recruits.
Maybe the challenge at the Knights appealed to him more.

I see these recruiters as spiders in a giant web of contacts and relationships they have built up.. which makes everything so much easier and smoother (this is all human to human interaction. not just numbers on paper as our club seem to think).. not to mention maybe they get a tip about some hot junior from xyz over in Timbuctoo etc.. something old mate Haran is not gonna stumble across when hes not tripping over his own shoelaces.

But these spiders are all employed right (Fulton aside), so we would have to dislodge somebody I imagine.. or take a punt on someone whos sort of half in the market.. but has some promise.. I guess what im saying is I think there is a very finite pool of talent here... and if the board already turned Fulton down.. I mean I kinda get it given POE was on the market.. but we missed him.. so who knows what Plan C is..

But it shouldnt be just Shane doing this.. surely there are some other heads in that organisation who can come up with some other candidates at the very least...

I was wondering if he and the Knights coach had worked together previously at the Storm or are my dates mixed up…??

Whilst I do agree with you it’s the time factor that really pisses me off. We dicked around waiting for a reply from him instead of telling him to have an answer by a certain time or piss off. If there was bad blood there then why go there In the first place, even if he got the job there would be bad blood. In the long run we wasted so much time on something that was never going to happen and in the long run cocked up our R & R and the Dragons were used to neg a better deal with the Knights.

We will never know the true story it will be buried so let’s get on with it who is the next best. I did a quick Google of the Development Manager’s at the top clubs & they look to be a breed of their own & the coaches that have been around would know their capabilities. Storm - Paul Bunn - long term guy & life member; Penrith - Jim Jones - long term; Raiders - Joel Carbone - appt 2022; Eels - Ben Rogers; Manly - Peter Gentle - I assume that is u know who. So we either go after a Jim Jones or possibly promote & develop from within as the only Develop Manager that has had a high profile is POS. Can one of our lower grade coaches be developed - Ryan Carr ? Flanno needs some help no doubt. Plan B explained please Ryan Webb not just financial talk. Rant over.

Fulton is on Mario tartaks books, we already bend at the knee to tartak don't need Fulton too. Also missing POS isn't that bad we still got some of the best junior talent to the club anyway. More about big recruits who Flano will eventually get anyway

Again, Kyle Stanley ? Certainly would have the respect of the growing pacific prospects .
