Dragons let down by the NRL

The sooner we stop blaming the NRL, refs, video reviews, other teams, salaries, TPA's , Area 51 etc, the closer we get to facing up to the fact that we are a poorly managed club. Until there is change at the top, then rest assured the rot will continue.

The most talked about subject in this forum is Mary.
Yet, he didn't appoint himself, and then extend his contract.

Exactly - extremely poor decision making by all involved - Poor coach, poor recruitment many, many poors which resulted in utmost poor results for years. Definitely not the NRL's fault. SGI, please look at yourselves very closely and accept that you guys are not worthy of running the club. NO MORE EXCUSES PLEASE!!!

Jimmy,

Mate, as Dragons fans we can always claim 16. Reality is, history will record it as 15 as STG and 1 as STGI.

When the governing body has already determined that, what we say becomes irrelevant.

Im a diehard Kogarah oldboy, and I understand your frustration. Everyone 20 or under attending games now, only know of STGI. We need to move forward, whilst embracing our rich history at the same time. The 2 are not mutually exclusive from a passionate fans viewpoint.

In reply, I’ll point out that the NRL has approved a litany of SGI “stuff” which is clearly marked “est. 1921”. The governing body is hardly a true barometre because (as we all know as rugby league fans), the only consistency it has is its inconsistency. This is the same mob which heavily publicised Cooper Cronk’s ninr grand final appearances whist voiding the 2007 and 2009 premierships due to Melbourne’s salary cap illegalities.

Simply pot, it has no idea.

Also of note, is Peter Doust’s public announcements, via the press, that the Club isn’t happy the history of 15 premierships has been wiped away....and that possible legal options would be examined at an undisclosed time.

Sidenote: don’t you find it paradoxical that the NRL allows SGI to celebrate the Dragons’ successful 11 year period at games held at the SCG, but on the other hand doesn’t acknowledge much past 1999?

Remember, if you will, a part of the JV’s original agreement....and ratified by the NRL...that: 1. the Dragons’ name, 2, its colours and 3, most importantly its history would NEVER be consigned to the rubbish bin.

Bennett wanted a five year contract with us...... Doust offered him 3 years only.
Go figuire!

This has got my mind in a quandary.

Suppose Bennett hadn’t been successful with SGI, what hope would the club have paying out his multi million dollar contract if it currently cannot do the same with McGregor?

This is the point.
The dragons administration have let the club down. Other clubs have moved with the times and made astute appointments, our guys in charge have made very poor decisions.
Appointing Mary was a mistake.
Extending Mary was a massive mistake.
Extending him a second time? Well that's just downright abysmal decision making. The fish rots from the head.

You know, for someone who likes to present himself as a “wordsmith”, you’ve had a shocker..

Still waiting on the merger vs JV stuff from you..

Let’s make it even easier..

Three names: Woolworths.. Lowe’s.. Masters..

Why weren’t Masters able to claim Woolworths legacy? Are Lowe’s part of Woolworths now? Why are Woolworths still trading when Masters are defunct?

Yes, quite right BLM01. It's so ridiculous that we re-sign a useless coach with so little quality in the name of McGregor over and over again when his results have overall been diabolical, whilst the stupid Board and CEO at the time, not long after we won the grand final in 2010 did not push to re-sign Bennett for at least another two more years after 2011. What a joke! Were they thinking that one premiership for SGI was enough and not pursue two or three wins in a row? Look at the Roosters, as I put in one of my posts, they WILL be gunning for win number 3 in a row for sure which in this day and age of NRL will be hard to surpass.
No doubting it in all that you say
