It was our game to lose.
Dugan gave us a boost with 2 solo efforts.
However, even leading by 12, we lacked intimidation up front.
There are many posts here about whther or not we need more size up front.
The answer is blatant.
Yes, we have an aging half, and problems with inside backs, but 2 Kasiano style/size
players would have put that game to bed. We had ample opportunity.
Positive = Dugan = Brilliant

I didn't think Ah Mau was bad, but Vea certainly was.

Mitch Rein is awful. Kills us in attack and his defence is also poor. When he doesn't miss them or fall off, they get quick play the balls on him.

That said, the game was in our grasp. We threw it away.

AhMau played around 50 min and did nothing,Vea around 12 min and did nothing.
Yes, we threw it away literally, stupid passes and possession turnovers.

There's a bit of Langlands in Dugans running

unfortuantely that type of play is what has gotten us our wins this season. its been on the back of ad-lib play with zero structure. if this has been the only way the team has managed to jag a win (and be praised for it) then obviously this is what they will revert to when in doubt.

A bit of an exaggeration. The only time we played ad-lib footy was the Souths game. I would struggle to point to any other win this season as being a result of ad-lib football with zero structure.

Mitch Rein played the full 80mins again - its no coincidence that his form is below par when Price makes him play the full 80.. he burns himself out after 50 and plays the last 30 on an empty tank..

he was far more effective previously when used in hooker rotation and is allowed a rest. Yet again something that most supporters have noticed however the coach seems oblivious to the fact.

I'm in agreement with the line that without Dugan we're not even in front. Saints did not play well...FULLSTOP. Two disasters from kickoffs and one out on the full ourselves, Fiens first kick was lucky to make it twenty metres and we lacked direction in attack as per usual. Defence stood back all night and it was only the Dogs horrendous passing that helped us stay in the game.

I watched in the stands last night and it was on the back of Dugan and Merrin where we looked like a footy team, the rest blended into a nothingness

I can only imagine the coach is getting nervous seeing Neil Henry booted and now rumours about Cartwright, both better performed coaches than he.

´...so true

There may be some Jamie Sowardism there by Steve Price. Insisting Rein do things he can't do (eg Play a full 80), or in other words, not playing to a player's strengths.

The combined effects of a few like that in the end just hurts the Team.

Saints can sign the whole QLD origin team in 2014 but with the muppet in charge they will still struggle to make the 8. Stop this blaming players crap and comapre the Dragons roster to others and you will see that the side is more than capable of winning half yep half their games to make the 8.

They are a laughing stock and only score when the opposition clocks off or Dugan does anything.

What we learnt yeasterday is that the Dogs are not a top 4 side because if they played the Chooks, Storm, Manly or Rabbits they would have been smashed. The Dogs were awefull. The amount of penalties and dropped ball where they were able to regather was ridiculous.

One thing else I learned is that forward passes are allowed now as there were plenty that were allowed to play on. All from the Dogs mind you.

You are dead right Slip. The Dogs were awful. They looked rattled when we went ahead, but our stupid mistakes and penalties let them get a sniff. The rest, as they say, is history.

One other thing. Nathan Fien is a great little bloke. No-one can doubt his heart, courage and commitment, but he is not a halfback. His kicking last night was absolutely atrocious and got us nowhere.I thought when we got to 20 - 8 we had a chance and letting the dogs kickoff bounce was the beginning of the end for us.

I do not have an answer for our form this year. Is it the coach or the players? Or a combination? All I know is that I went to bed totally saddened to see where our team is at this stage.

Bring on next year.

Bring on next year.

you're a masochist arent you?
if Price is there next season it will more of the same rubbish..

i can see the forum now... "widdop cant play without the big 3", "thompson is useless"

Price will bring out the worst in even the best player.. i am surprised Dugan is still going as well as he is, maybe he hasnt played enough matches for us to become infected with the Price rot.

With respect Mr Red he was bad for the full 80 last night imo.

he was far more effective previously when used in hooker rotation and is allowed a rest.

There also the belief that he was a one trick pony and other teams have worked out the trick .. Time and good coaching will answer that question for us all I suspect..

Yet again something that most supporters have noticed however the coach seems oblivious to the fact.

One wonders if the coach realises he has four ( count em ) hookers he can use??

My wife and I watched the game last night
Unlike me ( who bleeds red & white ) she doesn't really go for any team but follows the Dragons as i watch every game.
Her comments were very interesting.
# In Attack we either kick or give it to Dugan
# In Defence we wait for the opposition to reach us.
# When we have the ball we are constantly turned onto our backs , making it slower for us to play the attack.
# Why do we always run sideways on the oppostion try line
# The oppostions seems to score really easily on our goal line .
# Our players look really frusted
She finished by saying , isnt this the same team that won the premiership the other year - she then went on about coaching -I tried to explain that we had a new coach and lost players etc but by that time i had enough and went to bed.
Please make 2014 be the year of the Dragon again and not this nightmare.

smart woman!
our line speed has been dreadful all season, its very easy for teams to reach the advantage line and get a roll on in attack..
many obvious things have been broken with the team for nearly 2 seasons, its obvious either Price is clueless on how to fix, or simply doesnt have the awareness the problem exists..

either way he needs to go immediately and get another option for 2014.

I guess I must be a masochist. But surely next year will be better than this year? I am trying to forget about this year but I am a Dragon supporter through good and bad, so I just keep watching the train wreck that is 2013.

You have to wonder what goes on behind the scenes between Price, Young, Doust et al. What do they want from the team? What do they plan for the team? How far down the table do we go before something is done. How long will the players put up with not getting any direction?

Nothing personal against Price, but it is obvious to all of us that Steve Price is out of his depth and we are just supporters. I am deeply, deeply saddened by the situation the club is in. Maybe next year will be the same, but I am optimistic that it will be better.

End of rant.

That's it right there...
I bags you to go out and sign 'Bellamy, Hasler, Bennett'.
You've nailed it :sarcasm:
If you are not Captain Obvious, don't bother posting again.
Did you miss the bit about missing out on Bellamy?
Did you know that Price is our contracted coach for next year?

We are the ones in red and white

I was merely pointing out a trait common to some successful leaders. Perhaps reading the history of the thread before responding to one post may avoid you putting your foot in your mouth.
I was not talking about signing those mentioned.
I am aware that Price is our contracted coach for next year thanks for the tip but my learned friend.
This is a public forum and I am entitled to my opinion.
I look forward to reading your insightful posts in the future.
I will change my name to ?Captain Obvious? if you change yours to Ignorant Imbecile.
What do you say?

yep, good observation re line speed. A big contrast is our speed in defence that waits, but in attack with our slow half who is not going to run, his support players are easily targeted. Also, he has problems when he kicks as his release is slow & he doesn't have the option of running it like Soward did occasionally.

Again, that's not a criticism of Fien because he's trying his heart out, but has been left stranded in the role by the coach.

I can't believe Des Hasler.

We get hammered at home and he chooses to rub it in after the game by telling everyone at the presser that 'St George have been playing well all year.....and they have a very smart young coach."

Hasler is not an idiot, and I'm sure his tongue was planted firmly in his cheek when he said that rubbish.
