Here is a scoop.
There will be NO Premier League in 2008. It will be replaced by a National Under 20 competition.....
YOU READ IT HERE FIRST

Actually I heard it first on Talkin Sport, about 4 weeks ago. Pete I am not a huge Tim Smith fan either, however I can assure you he is a notch or two above Blake Green.

I reckon Hodkinson or Moloney will end up being our long term halfback. Just a hunch. Tim Smith will leave Parra and go to the Broncos in 2008. That is what I envisage anyway.

What does this mean for Jersey Flegg and the other comps?

Jersey Flegg will be the National Under 20's comp. Clubs will be able to field a number of their extra over age players in a strengthened Jim Beam Cup.

Don't know. I have been told by VERY GOOD (impeccable) SOURCE that 2008 it will be NRL and the National under 20 competition.

As has been said it has been known for a good deal of time to be the case.... ;-)

who is your tip to be our long term number 7?

I think Hodkinson will be - probably by mid 2008. Strong defender, runs to the line, solid kicking game, great passing game. Kris Keating was apparently the wunderkind but Trent has stepped up into PL quite comfortably and was very good even behind a pack that was undersize in Flegg. He'll benefit from some strong recruiting in the Flegg side next year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Timmy however return to some form and develop a running game under Hagan. Personally I think Hagan has a much better understanding of how to nurture halves than what Brian and JT has. Sure he has had Johns to work with but I think he is less regimented in his approach and gives them more time to play to their natural instincts. I think that then falls back on Tim and how much he is willing to learn which IMO hasn't been a problem in the past.

Trent goes really well, He has a good running game. Pete would be happy with that. He Even does chip and chases too Pete.

One thing that Tim Smith is never going to develop is a sprint.

Very Very slow, and before I get bashed I know Sterling was not a quick man either, but we are in a different era now. Tim would be the slowest half in the comp.

I'm not sure if Blake Green is the answer but the kid is a winner! His impeccible record speaks for itself. He simply wins at everything he does!!!

Gower, Sherwin, Head, Perry, Johns, Joe Williams, Kimmorly, these guys might be quicker than Tim but believe me not by much, it really is how fast you are between the ears that matters.

Exactly...Talk in cheap. He needs to display more courage on the paddock in my opinion. The basic skill is there I think he may be lacking in the ticker area. That's just my observation.

Talk is cheap pete the difference is Tim is going to get asked questions from the media so naturally will give a positive response. Your talk is cheap pete as your doing it in november 06 not in april 07 when we can gage Tim's form. I will be the first one to say you were right if he does not aim up, but untill then I think every true fan should get behind the kid.

if ur suggesting lucablight that youf would have joe williams as halfback over smith, well then i've never watched a game of league, tim in bad form has a better overall game than williams in good form

If Joe Williams could defend I would have him in front of Tim!

Jonathan Thurston has learnt how to defend and look at him now!!

Joey is a good kid and a half decent footballer but he has a poor kicking game and makes bad decisions in attack - speed is an asset but his organisational skills are non-existent. He is a much better halfback than Ben Rogers and Ben Walker yet they played more halfback than he did last year. ;-)

Have to agree to disagree on poor kicking game?:?

He is long, kicks high prcentage gaol kicking, makes exceptional meters from penalty kicks. CAN KICK A 40-20:p He is though capable of a bad decision here or there but I think like TS try's a bit too hard sometimes. Get's put under some pressure through poor forward pack at times too!

I'm looking forward to seeing if JT can improve JW's game this year, but first and foremost he must learn to defend!!

Tactically it is appalling and always has been.

Decent goalkicker, yes, and has a long boot but as a tactical kicker he struggles - kicks too the fullback or winger far too much. * Much like Tim did this year in the early part of the season.

I'm looking forward to seeing if JT can improve JW's game this year, but first and foremost he must learn to defend!!

Souths will again struggle through lack of direction in the halves - regardless of who is coaching them. Jeremy Smith and Joey Williams certainly aren't organistaional halfbacks and that is where they have struggled in the past. They will improve on last season but they will still struggle for lack of a genuine half. They spent big but probably in the wrong areas....
