Dufty comments

Fair call. I should add that I'm a Quinny fan. I've known him for years and thanks to JD and Sheens he is cracking it in ESL. Amazing what good coaches can do Denis. Dufty is a bystander. He's not a support player, current teams shut him down easily. He never sniffed around, his passing game is pedestrian and I'm not sure I want to spend the 200K on what I've seen. Check out Hull KR online and see what I'm talking about. Sorry about the rant X
BUT support play was one of his chief assetts in Jersey & ISP ( running off forward offloads , particularly Lulia ) ANOTHER example of things being coached out of our players. These 3 stoogers are the anti coaches ! Even Johns, Anasta Gould etc are now saying that our support play is non existant , we play way too regulated and only attempt something resembling attacking play on the 4th tackle and not before.

Amazing how the media has only wised up to this the last 3 weeks but i will be satisfied when Kent & Crawley take away "he's a great coach " tag and join the rest of them. THE DRUMS ARE BEATING.

End of my rant.

Agreed. Kent is not objective and also a friend of Mary, so hence my rant. Support play may have been Dufty's go forth in junior games but it's certainly not now Denis. Just an observation.

I made a comment straight away about Dufty’s poor attempt at the tackle where he let the Canterbury player run around him, but I didn’t accurately describe my true feelings, however there’s a headline that does and suggest Dufty dogged it. That’s exactly what I thought at the time, any fullback worth their salt knows their best chance in that situation is to v line it straight at the attacker, cut down his angle and go in hard. It’s a tough tackle to make as the attacker is usually at top speed and will try and run over you. It takes guts but that’s what you need to do as a full back, its called commitment and imo it’s bread and butter stuff for a fullback. To back off isn’t acceptable, to go in hard and even if you fail ie get bumped off, well I can accept that.

I know he’s not alone and I’m trying not to be a Dufty basher but I’ve commented several times where I’ve seen Dufty not commit in these situations this year. It can’t keep happening.

It’s also interesting to hear Soward say he can’t believe we haven’t drawn on our quality ISP players, especially Lomax and Herbert. Also Anasta slamming Mary for not resting the forwards over SOO. Do these guys read the forums, or is Mary the only one who misses obvious

Of course these are just my opinions.
I was playing fullback for the school in a game of Rugby Union in year 11. Their best player made a break and it was me left all by myself to tackle this big fast player. I was only skinny back then and the player looked at me and decided that he would run straight over the top of me. I lined him up and went for a big hit and met him head on with my shoulder. I made the tackle, but literally saw stars for the first and only time in my life. I thought the seeing stars business was just in cartoons. I had to go leave the field injured after that tackle.

A good coach would realize what an attacking weapon he could be and develop a plan to make that happen.
C'mon 2010. We're talking about FG here. No doubt he has pace but Reimis Smith smoked him. I didn't know who the hell he was, but I certainly know now.

True. Go back to the first 10-12 rounds & Dufty was in great attacking form & brimming with confidence. Since then, like most of the team, his form has dropped for whatever reason. A good coach would have identified this & put in place things to reverse that.
As for his comments, I’m pretty annoyed with what he said but I don’t see that as a reason to sack him, drop him or anything like that. If that was the case the body language of about 6 players from Sunday was more damaging than a few words on Tw*tter & they should be marched if that’s the case.

If I recall correctly Philip Cousins was manning the BBQ and the smell of onions and sausages was washing over the crowd.

Maureen McCulloch was watching the match with her new fella, Paul Roberts. We didn’t know it at the time but they went on to have 3 kids together. One of them turned out to be no good and spent some time in the big house for holding up a motor hotel, which was a shame as he showed great promise at becoming a plumber.

I say again, any fan pays money to watch can boo or cheer.

People want to cheer but will boo shit performance.

That is the point of going FFS.
And even Mary and Sims said fans had the perfect right to boo.

If anyone thinks not, please seek help.

Dufty looked like a 15 year old trying to tackle that bloke. Where did Smith come from? He looked like a machine against us.

It is being reported by channel nine that JG had words with Dufty in the sheds after the match. Fake news?

This story is an exact read on what happened to me in my last year at school, only diference is I played on with stars in my eyes but eventually went off when a big forward caught me high when I was crossing for a try. He broke my collar bone landing right on top of me.

I had to google him after that first try. Only 21 and 196cm tall. This kid is going to do some damage in the future. I'm hoping Lomax may turn out the same whether in the centres or FB spot. I haven't seen much of him tbh so does he have pace? Quite a few posters on here rate him highly. Here's hoping.

drag you obviously never played league sweetie when i was a teenager i played full back and i was very quick but defence wise not so good .many a time got beaten on the outside when a guys at full pace and your trying to tackle you can lose momentum when the other guy steps or changes direction ....got nothing to do with how fast you are or how slow the other guy is.....dufty should be like billy take them front on if he can but he hasnt got the smarts yet .took billy a few years to get his defence like it is now ........

You're right, and I'm glad you weren't yelling at me with capital letters. How many years do we have to wait OD given that Dufty may indeed get shafted? Personally I wouldn't be comparing Slater with Dufty for obvious reasons. Each to their own I guess.

lets not go there drag your opinion of matt is well known by now .but your entitled to your opinion, ben barba was never a tackling machine. but won a grand final so im sure if dufty had a decent coach his attacking prowess and defensive as well would improve

Dufty's days are numbered as far as I am concerned. The next coach will punt him to the high heavens. Two great matches doesn't make a season.

For someone so young, he looks like a seasoned professional. A bit like what Aitken was like back in the day.

Yep those sort of tackles can lift a team. Not attempting can more likely deflate a team. I was also a skinny fullback and I can remember being hurt a few times making such tackles. The thing with a Dufty is that he can tackle very well at times, but to be a good first grader you have to be consistent. The positive for a Dufty is he can improve. I think of Slater and I’m sure he wasn’t as good a defender early on in his career, and Slater was very susceptible under the high ball. Dufty is definitely an attacking weapon but does have some work to do.
