Dugan done

This is essentially my question.

Reports have Bird on 850k-1mil at the Ponies.
Sharks don't match their price*, shortly afterwards sign Dugan, who reports have asking for 850k-1mil

*pending Thoroughbreds

Adam because Bird didn't want to play centre anymore and that is where he would play if he stayed.

Bennett has told him he'll use him closer to the action.

I reckon it has lot less to do with the position. Money and spotlight in Brisbane.

Anyways, the club would have preferred a much younger Bird than Dugan.

Dugan is made of glass, Bird has a short shelf life.

broncos can have Jack, Josh is not needed

I think the purchase of Dugan is a good one, considering the loss of bird and potential loss of leutele.

Going into next season with raimen and Bessie(?? Insert other young bloke) as the centres isn't ideal.

Dugan can fill that hole as an elite level player, while taking baby steps on the other edge. Also can slot straight to the back if necessary.

Question - How can you not afford Bird but can afford Dugan? Or is there another angle to this? I'd prefer Bird tbh

Simple

Broncos offered a lot more than we could. It's probably the same under the salary cap but TPAs would probably make it $300k more.

Its as close to keeping bird as you can get, in terms of a like for like player. Very similar playing styles, they even look alike.
Dugan is actually a big unit so will add a bit of size to the backline.
Duges and Lewis defending side by side sounds pretty good too.

after following the club for 47 years, its a weird feeling reading about the Sharks coming out ahead in bidding wars for high profile players, anyway its an indication of how we've massively improved our standing in the past 2-3 years.

Tom, It's good to not have that financial noose around our necks anymore.

How many Premierships could the Club have won if that wasn't around our necks for so long?

Always a bit easier for the sydney team. Dugs doesn't have to move home to go from the Dragons to Sharks.

Is that 47 or 46 years?
