The write-up suggests someone targeted the chest, and sprung the traps as a result. I'm guessing the chest either had one off night protection, or it's permanent and they can't be got at night. So they would no anything about whoever targeted them.

Yeah i read it again and i agree. I just wonder if the person that set the trap is town or mafia. Typical trapmakers in dnd are rogues of almost any kind and gnome/goblin tinkerers. Maybe our trapmaker is indeed a treasure hunter and that is why they are quiet.
