Can anyone see the Knights improving that much in the first season under Bennett to be considered one of the premiership favourites?

Seems a bit over the top and Souffs like hype to me.

2008 Dragons = 8th.
2009 Dragons = Minor Premiers.

2011 Knights = 8th......

I think it will at least be a few years until the knights win a comp, but we have the squad to still have a chance of winning it next year IMO.

Can't understand how the Tigers could possibly be favourites given we have no established fullback or halfback and we don't know who will play in those two positions.

But then again, who takes notice of betting markets anyway?

I think the betting agencies have the Broncos and Tigers higher than I would and there will be some teams that are $20+ that will get amongst them there always is.

My tip would be Melbourne with the Cowboys as the dark horse, I also think the Roosters will re bound after letting Carney go and putting that behind them.

The odds are always pretty volatile to start with.

When I looked at it on Friday, you could take the best odds for each team from a number of different betting agencies and actually spread bets on each team so that you could only ever win.

It is pretty unusual that you can have a guaranteed result with betting, but it is possible at the moment. But you get slightly less than a 1% return for your money (which is below inflation and less than most savings accounts) so it is not really a money maker.

Sharks still spoon favs. Interesting.

I know I'm biased, but the Sharks never really threatened for the spoon this year IMHO, and had as much disruption to key players as any other poorly performed team. And the Sharks squad looks to have added some class and depth (all fans like to think that before a season starts though). I'm not saying the Sharks will be world beaters in 2012, but favourites for the spoon seems a bit much.

I guess the Raiders will have more Campese (and Dugan), and the Eels and Titans have also bolstered their squads fairly well. The Roosters looked good at the end of the year and Penrith have Cleary and hopefully their backline will stay fit. I guess the Sharks are last in premiership betting with a lot of agencies on tradition, and the other "no hopers" looking better...

I think some of the other clubs could actually have a collapse year and get the spoon. Broncos, Souths, Bulldogs and Tigers all have doubts over halves, and a key injury could give them a very inexperienced halves pairing. Manly could self destruct, Dragons were sliding a long time at the end of this season. I only think NZ, Storm and Knights are relatively safe as a top 8 option, and any other team could make the finals or get the spoon. Makes the long odds for some teams pretty juicy for some fans.

Whoever Steven Kearney is coaching will be a shoe in for the spoon.
He is pathetic.
Look at his recent record.
He should have stayed in hiding behind bellamy.

Reading my post again it does seem I was trying to disagree with you, but I wasn't. I knew you meant "interesting" as in the Sharks should be higher than that, and was agreeing, but somehow I didn't convey that well...

Anyway, we agree the Sharks are not our favourites to be last (or least favourites to win, as the odds at the moment show).

The spoon and spoon contenders have been something of a surprise every year for a good while. Teams that are not well favoured by many often struggle (though some do well) but the absolute worst teams usually come as a surprise and are often hurt by bad injuries and poor luck. That is why picking the spoon "winner" is a pretty tricky exercise.

Having a reliance on one or two in form players I think can make a team particularly volatile, able to do well or poorly on the back of some lucky factors. If I had to pick a favourite for the spoon I would also nominate Souths, but the Bulldogs and Tigers played some terrible football in 2011, and I think a bad run of luck could expose them.

I also think the Titans really need Prince back in good form, as they were lacking in almost every aspect in 2011 and their squad boosts won't mean much without Prince playing well.
