He also said mortz would be our long term 7
He also wrapped Humble, and even recently gave Mullaney a wrap. He was a genius player and an outstanding reader of the game but that doesn't mean he is the greatest judge of talent.

The last time cronk led a side in a major game without c smith by his side was the 2008 Gf and he lost something like 40 to nil. But cronk has improved over the years but he aren't in thurstons class.

LOL yeah I remember when he used to rave over Blacklock (or some name similar) as a future aussie 5/8th. Anyone Sterlo anoints you can pretty much write off.

40-0? sounds like cronk was playing behind a soft pack, isnt that sandows excuse?

Thurston is over rated imo. Plays well with superstars around him , i.e Origin and for Australia, but i cant remember the last time he done anything amazing for his club.

Cronk, Carney, DCE, all better and more influential club players.

Sandow is the best we have and is the best available as of now, we are just paying him too f##king much for what he's delivering. That said I can't see the point of subsidising his salary by forcing him out until we can replace him with better and Kelly is certainly not better.

The problem with SandOw is not attack.he leaks 20 + points a game. Sorry you just cannot have him in the team.

Prior to this year he has been consistently influential. In recent seasons he was consistently among the top couple of playmakers in the NRL, going right back to 2005 when he won his first (of four) Dally M Half/Five-eighth of the Year.

This year he's less gooder, but still pretty good.

I would call none of them dominating halfbacks but surprise surprise they all look good playing a very defined role in strong top 4 squads

Yeah and when Sandow was in that top 4 squad they finished 9th or 10th. He's an alright attacking player with his flashy stuff but apart from intercepts, chip-and-chases and field goals he doesn't cut it. And then of course he's deadset the worst defensive player in the comp.

Thurston is the type of player that excels at the highest level but goes into his shell at club level. And I don't think he's overrated at rep level, he's often one of the best for Qld or Australia, but he's nowhere near Johns or Lockyer level at club footy.
Cronk I think is a vital cog in an excellent machine. He does his job really well, but so does all the players at Melbourne. And Smith is a class above. Now there's a player that's at a Johns-like level of influence. Storm have won something like 40% of games without Smith. If Cronk was that great a half that percentage would be higher. He's to Smith like Buderus was to Johns. A great supporting role but not the best lead.

Oh wow, now Sterlo's an idiot. God this forum can be dumb sometimes

People have given evidence why they think Sterlo's words shouldn't be taken as gospel. How about you provide evidence showing why we should listen to Sterlo instead of insulting people. I guess he's on television and he was a great player over thirty years ago so we should all listen to him.

They weren't a top four squad when he played for them. For starters they had an extremely poor defender at edge forward (Taylor) plus their best props (Asotasi and Burgess) were injured most of the season. On top of that their best player (Inglis) was stuck out on one sideline.

Plus the whole team played without intensity which is why the coach was arseholed.

Sandow was stuck at Souths while they were shit and now he's stuck at Parra while we're shit. He shouldn't be blamed for being at two shit clubs.

In the late 90s Brian Smith criticised Sterlo's commentary too.

The game looks very different out on the field than it does on TV or in the stands. I know I've learnt a lot more about the game since I stopped playing.
