I agree that it is pointless holding off for a year to concentrate on away games..

We need to start at our own house get that in order and the away stuff starts to grow.

A large majority of people would be more likely to be regularly available at home games than they would be at away fixtures, so it would be better to build a core group at home and then help to attract new people who will flow on to away trips etc.

What I suggest and as has been suggested previously.. for the first year if we can get a group who are happy to buy in with season tix to the bay.. they can be there... then if anyone else who may already have season tix elsewhere and are reluctant to give them up.. they can always at a very minimum, purchase game day tickets to the area on a casual basis to try things out.

I have received a reply from the club.

There is such a section already in the 2010 Brochure, and it will be promoted to lead the chants, and have large flags and banners. It is heavily emphasized and Promoted in that Brochure.

It does however appear to be in the Northern Terrace, for issues regarding flags, seating and lines of sight.
All sounds fair enough logic from the club there.

And good that they already had plans for something like this on the boil ahead of STH renewals for next season.

I guess it just comes down to whether fans choose to abandon their existing STHs with better views for the northern terrace to be part of this Eels flags and songs crew at home games.

Well done to those involved and wanting to take this forward. I think it's great that it exists and wish it every success. Personally though, I intend to stay sitting with my Dad in the grandstand, because that's where and how we like to watch our footy, and what home games have come to mean for me in the past 24 seasons.

But as I've said earlier, the Away game crew/fan bays seem a separate matter to this home STH bay, and as others have said the away games fans bay really just require organisation and coordination in the first year of trying to get it off the ground.

I actually doubt that.
I'm with Planet's logic on this one.

I just feel that too many people who would be interested already have their STHs and like where they sit now, so they won't be up for it. Away games it's much easier as you can get a bay assigned by Ticketek, and you don't need all the same people there every week because the mechanism to 'assemble' is already there for you. After that has been in place for a while, those STHers might be more likely to move the following year. Just my opinion.

Yeah, we need to make sure we get home base in order.

A Parra fan is more likely to go to home games than away games. As such, there is more chance of us being seen regularly (and thus having an impact and encouraging people to join and participate) if we can set up a home base.

So here's the question people:

Are you willing to abandon the grandstands and east/west terraces to move to the North side?

(That is, if we can't hook up something decent on the East side)

Those that don't travel usually watch the games on TV though. Get a big enough group to an away game and get them on telly then you can do a damn good job of promotion that way.

I hate watching footy from behind the posts. That's my one and only b*tch.

If we can get it in the East Terrace, I'm there.

The second part of that is true. mick, but I don't necessarily think the first part is. If it was, the 10k we get to home games each week would lead to 10k Parra fans at away games every week. That doesn't happen so obviously there are a majority of people who are more inclined to be "Home Gamers" than "Away Gamers".

Well, see, I prefer it from there and don't like to sit in other places.

But I was willing to switch to the East and make that sacrifice if it was for the greater good.

I once watched an SOO game at the SCG from behind the posts, in the Bradman Stand... it was that game in the wet where I think the Eels had the whole NSW backline except Phillip Duke or Sigsworth or some nuffy at fullback?

Was a very interesting way of looking at a game for a change... but yeah, I'm not sure for me it'd stand up to regular/STH repeated viewings.

No, I fully appreciate that you aren't going to get the translation of home numbers to away numbers... that's not what I'm saying.

If you have a core away group to start with, and get a specific bay allocated for them at away games and have a name for the group with a nice big banner, then that would result in plenty of focussed exposure on TV when Parra scores etc, as opposed to home games where the entire ground is parra supporters, and the camera goes all over the place and doesn't really fix on any one bay.

That TV focus would then in turn translate into more home fans being keen to sit with them when the group has a bay at home games.
