gotta laugh at how some of you lot think we can somehow dictate terms for how much our players will get paid let alone have them even consider some of the crap written

Perhaps?

But he seems to be a forgotten man in a lot of ways.
Personally I think he's an excellent prop - very solid around the ruck defensively, good sting in defence, and high workrate in attack. Not a big offloader, but hardly drops the ball.

The biggest problem with him seems to be (a) staying on the paddock and (b) Mannah and Moi Moi. No doubt those 2 will be our starting props - so if Poore wants to command a big salary in 2013 and beyond, he needs to be hoping for an injury so that he can showcase his game as a standout starting prop.

Having said all that, I don't think Poore would be worth $250k to us even if he plays for NSW again next year. The only time you need to overpay for a prop is when you're struggling with no props.
See the Bulldogs of the past few seasons - they needed a "leader of the pack" type and so brought in Graham, and paid overs for Tolman.

Poore being injury prone is a bit of a myth. He suffered one serious injury last year but prior to that he's been extremely healthy his entire career. He's only 26 still but has played about 155 first grade games, that's more than any other prop in the NRL in his rough age group. Poore could still play NRL footy for a good 4 or 5 more years so he may be worth the investment.

The best props in the game would still command 350k plus, and the next tier down like Poore would probably be in that 250 - 300k range. Whether he'll be worth that to use with Mannah, Allgood and depending on what Fui does is another story though. Wayne Bennett may cap a limit on what he values front rowers but it's not the same for every coach. It's still the toughest and hardest working position in the game and without the go forward of the front row a talented half can do very little so they're well worth paying top dollar for if you need to.

i have no doubt with blair reportedly earning 500-600k now that it won't be uncommon for top tier props to demand what poore is already being paid

wasn't lack of, we had about 8 injured. From memory Cayless was the only one fit

That's exactly what he was reffering to if you read the post he was quoting. That was a tough run with our props that year. From memory Vella, Peek, Tsoulos and Cannings all suffered season ending injuries, Stringer retired mid season and Fui had a season ending suspension so it was up to Cayless and a rookie Cordoba and that was it.

We don't need tolman, re sign Fui ASAP!

A quality back rower is a higher priority than a prop IMO.

The Chad played front row late in that year.

Back on the original question - Peni Terepo looks promising.

He does look promising but old threads have reminded me that he will probably be a f**king useless merkin that won't cut the mustard.

yep exactly, after Taylor took over we went on an amzing running and were bound for the top 4 if we had defeated the Broncos I think it was in the second last row, we had Cordoba as the sole front rower in the side. Robinson, Riddell and Hindmarsh had to basically play in the front row. Oh well !!

2013

Mannah
Fui

Allgood
J Mannah/Terepo

Gone:

Poore (Too expensive, good prop but 350k could be used better and i dont think SK is the kinda coach that will pay big money for a hard working prop)
Shackleton (Getting on in age and with guys like Allgood/J Mannah/Terepo on the way up, there might not be rooms for Shacks anymore)

Don't be surprised if a young bloke by the name of William Bugden (son of Geoff) is lining up in FG by the end of 2013. @ 195cm tall and 103kgs lean and only 18 years of age. This young bloke could be anything.

As mentioned Mannah and Fui should still be here if management have any idea, Allgood looks the goods.

Terepo runs like an absolute demon with the ball but he may be a bit small for FG atm (on watching him a couple of times last year).

J.Mannah is capable of first grade but hopefully he can go on and improve a bit more.

Poore and Shakelton will probably move on or take pay cut, so for frontrowers we may be set until past 2013 if we can hold onto those 5 plus have a few no-frills type frontrowers for depth.
