He is valuable to our team for different reasons to why he would be needed at the Dolphins. I noted that he called himself a halfback in the last couple of days. Is really a $700+ No.7 ? Cos his money ball game is MIA, his kicking game is just OK and his running game seems to be an afterthought.
If Chad Townsend can get a deal for 700-800K, Dylan Brown would attract similar crazy money from desperate clubs, particularly a club starting from scratch who have only signed 2 outside backs and a bunch of 30+ forwards so far just 12 months out from their inaugural NRL game...

True. I hope he knows what pressure he'll be under playing #7 for the 2023 wooden spooners.

I'm kind of OK if he wants to bail for an Alan Bond payday, like Rheed. I reckon our ability to attract quality players has flipped and there would be no shortage of talent knocking on our door if he goes.

Tbh, Objectively speaking Dylan could do better in another team maybe. I feel like his creativity is being stifled.

I don't wanna mention the words but you know that hilltop hoods song - "Chase that Collision". If we don't win a premiership this year, I suppose we won't be chasing it anymore.

I guess there are two ways of looking at it.

1. Dylan has failed to live up to his hype.
2. The coach / team style is holding him back.

----8<-----

“I think Dylan Brown is a guy that I don’t think yet realises how good he can be,” Ennis said.

“He has got an incredible running game with great strength and skill.

“At times he can go in and out of games and whether that is because he is a little bit quieter and more reserved that he allows other players like Moses to dominate for periods of the game.

“He has got to be able to find ways and have the confidence in himself to take the reins and take control of the game.

“I think that comes with time and maturity. He is still only 21 years of age. I think we forget that sometimes because of the magic moments that he has shown us.

“He just needs to believe in himself and he needs to be confident that when his moment comes that he takes it because I think he can have a huge impact on the Eels’ season and a lot more than he probably believes at this stage.”

You're right. We'll find out what happens this year.

Players generally play better when there's contract talk in the air. Not mentioning any names - Nathan Brown.

I don't give a f**k what Ennis says, Dylbags is not a no 7 and not worth no 7 money for mine.

He is, however, a talented player and an asset to our team and a top class defender, he saved us a few games with try saving tackles at the end of last season, same as setting up a couple of tries, he makes a difference on the scoreboard.

I'd really like him to stay at Parra but we can't control what desperate teams like Dolphins and Tigers may offer him.

Whilst i agree with that, the question is do we have someone internally who could replace him if he left, as there is very slim pickings in the market place for halves for 2023

No we'd need to sign someone external until the next one is ready. Like we have done with the Hooker.

I’d say we’d be more likely, IF Drown left, to sign experienced depth, opposed to a genuine starter, to cover the next one short term.
And by next one, I’m referring to future Immortal Jordan Rankin

Yep, JA. Another year of footy and NRL offseason, he will probably be ready for a starting spot.

And while his potential is unknown (I reckon he did ok, but not great, in his games this year), he would be in a spine of Gutho, Moses and Hodgson, so wouIdn’t need to take a leading role.

Additionally Russell (or perham) could be ready for the fullback spot with Gutho moving into the halves.

So there are options within the squad.

BTW - I hope we keep Drown, but not on stupid money.

JA is the second coming of Joey Johns according to the TCT, i cant wait till we have seen the back of the overrated Brown and it will time for JA to shine.

"It's very exciting"

Oh, and P.S. I reserve my right to bag the absolute shit out of Brown at any stage of the season if he so much as puts a foot out of line. In fact, if I find out he’s even thought about doing it I’ll punish the little turd.

Gutherson to the halves is the obvious move. We seem to have a few blokes who are potential NRL fullbacks.

He isn't going anywhere.
