The Parramatta Eels have since thrashed the Dragons, snuck past a poor Titans side, lost to the Tigers in front of a sellout home crowd, and hammered the Knights in Newcastle.

Consistency remains an issue for a side that can look like a premiership contender one week and finals fodder the next. However, injuries have played a part in Parramatta's start to the season. If anything, the turnover in outside backs - and now the halves - can be seen as a positive given how well the Eels have responded. Their attack continues to pile up points while the defence understandably struggles given the faces moving in and out of the squad each week.

If the Eels can get themselves healthy and continue to build on their promising start to the year, they will close the gap on the Panthers and Storm at the top of the premiership chances list.

Why don't you tell us? I don't know how much anyone gets paid, and unlike you merkins, I don't automatically believe what's in the papers.

So you reckon we don't or can't afford the $5m limit that ALL the clubs have for the non player salary which includes coaches salary?

I have debated this with you before pou, but you just seem to think we are a basket case club and don't have any pull and are not the most coveted club in NSW to be head coach at. The Rooster are the only club that is slightly ahead of us because of Politis and that may change when he is gone depending who takes over. Remember the weren't being run all that well before him and actually a bit of a basket case and even when he jumped on it took them quite a while like more then a decade to get it right and stop being a transit lounge for players to chill at.

The only thing we can't seem to get right is TPA's but remember the Roosters don't have many of those either, but then again they probably don't need them while Politis is there.

Also once the Centre of excellence is completed then as far as stability and football resources we will be streaks ahead of any club when you way up everything a club has to offer. So there is no reason for us to keep hiring second string banana coaches anymore.

In fact I have been thinking of posting who I think our next coach should be for a while now but kept putting it off, but since I am on this tangent will do it now. I will do it in my next post so this isn't just one massive big post, but two massive big posts. Haha..

That’s right. I would say most clubs don’t spend it. If the NRL didn’t provide 100% of player salaries many clubs wouldn’t spend the full player cap either.

Well I would hope not with the ordinary calibre of the 3 main coaches we have at present.

But if we chose to actually hire quality in the top 3 coaching positions I'm sure we could spend the appropriate amount to make it happen mate. It's not like we haven't spent $5m on the non player salaries before.

Yep, I never said we are poor. We are in the genuine second echelon of wealth after the Storm, Roosters, Broncos, Panthers and Rabbits. And at the moment we are as good on the field as one of them and better than two others.

Sure. Ricky Stuart won a premiership in his first season at the Roosters and a wooden spoon in his first season at Parra. Coaching is not the silver bullet you think it is.
