Former NRL players have come out in defence of Eels teenager Jakob Arthur who has been ruthlessly sledged on social media following the club’s loss to the Cowboys.
Jakob is the son of coach Brad Arthur and he’s been picked at five-eighth over the past two weeks to help cover an injury crisis.
The selection has shifted star playmaker Dylan Brown into the centres because Parramatta have so few options in the outside backs.

Sean Russell, Tom Opacic, Haze Dunster, Maika Sivo, Hayze Perham, Waqa Blake and Marata Niukore are all injured.
There were few complaints when Jakob played in the No. 6 jersey and the Eels cruised to a 39-2 victory against the Knights in Round 7.
But when they were embarrassed by North Queensland in Round 8 over the weekend, the keyboard warriors came for Jakob.
The abuse got so bad that Parramatta’s official twitter page called for it to stop, before the club later deleted that tweet.
“I don’t know about this nepotism stuff. That’s completely out of line,” Laurie Daley said on Big Sports Breakfast.
“Look at the players injured, outside backs, Brown is a better option in the centres with Arthur at five-eighth with what they’ve got.
“It’s not nepotism, it’s who he thinks is going to do the best job.
“If you’ve got a player that's been shifted for necessity, that’s what you do until you get troops back, every day of the week.

“Brown understand the position they’re in and he needs to help Jakob Arthur and other players in that team. They were just off, the Eels.”
Eels utility Bryce Cartwright has been floated as a makeshift centre to allow Brown back into the halves but Daley shut it down.
“Imagine putting a backrower in the centres and he has a shocker,” Daley said.
“They can’t win.”
Former Maroons prop Martin Lang, who played under his father John Lang at the Panthers between 2002-04, slammed the criticism.
“Jake Arthur is only 19 years of age and is a fine prospect. I’d like to see the CVs of those behind the nepotism accusations,” he said.
“Miserable, jealous individuals who want nothing more than to discredit the coach.”
Veteran rugby league journalist Phil Rothfield echoed the sentiment said Jakob was being unfairly targeted.

“It’s very easy when your name is Ivan (Cleary) and you’ve got a son playing like Nathan,” Rothfield said on BSB.
“Brad Arthur didn’t pick his son for the game against Newcastle without taking it up with the leadership group, Clint Gutherson, Mitchell Moses, Junior Paulo. This move had the support of the players.
“I spoke to Andrew Johns and he thinks Jakob is a terrific player. To blame a 19-year-old boy for a massacre in Darwin, when 17 players contributed to the loss, it’s unfair.
“If his name was Joe Blow we wouldn’t even be talking about him. Brad Arthur is struggling to pick 17, he’s got an injury crisis.”
