Eels in the media

The Parramatta Eels are the most widely supported Sydney club in the NRL and third overall after Melbourne and Brisbane.
Like most statistics, you really have to read the detail.

I suspect that the Storm are the most supported team in the NRL, for the same reason the Swans are the most supported team in the AFL. One team town from very large cities. Obviously the situation in Sydney has changed, but the other mob struggle for support.

I'd be interested to see how many of those Swans and Storm fans put their money where their mouth is and pay for seats, jerseys, etc. "Engaged fans" is the true mechanism of support of a team.

I also assume this is "supporters" in Australia? I'd be surprised if only 164,000 people supported the Warriors in one way shape or form if it includes people who live in New Zealand. If does include NZ fans, then surely the NRL is taking the piss thinking about a second NRL team from NZ.

Turning rorting into a science

From Carporks, to Sportsrorts and everything in between, the level of rorting from the Liberal and National parties was breathtaking. Rorting was turned into a science. The use of colour-coded spreadsheets enabled pinpoint precision.

The definition of regional funds was beyond elastic. An Olympic pool under the Sydney Harbour Bridge got $10m meant for ‘upgrading community swimming pools in rural and regional areas’.

A similar fund category called “Regional Development” had similar issues with what ‘Regional’ meant. The equal second largest rugby league grant was $16.5M taken from the “Regional Development” category.

The $16.5M grant was given to the Parramatta Eels for a ‘centre of excellence’ which includes a new stadium and other facilities.

The ‘centre of excellence’ is located in Liberal powerbroker Alex Hawke’s electorate of Mitchell. According to the ABS zone categorisation the development is in “Level 0-Major Urban”.

The question: What criteria were used to justify the use of ‘Regional Development” funds to build a new stadium in a “Major Urban” suburb in Alex Hawke’s electorate?

Most NRL and AFL clubs got grants for the same thing at different times. There is a reason our training ground/future CoE site is where it is though and not closer to the ground.

Unfortunately you could see this was going to happen 12 months ago. I called it a carcrash waiting to happen.

It was nice story to start off with but once fans realised what Jake was capable off and what he currently brings this was going to end in tears.

Brad deserves all of the blame really.

Weather it's fair or not being the son of the coach in a professional sporting team only works if you are either a superstar or not playing in a important position like when Martin and John Lang did it 20 years ago where Martin was a front rower who had pretty simple role without fuss and was established as a State of origin front rower.

Also the social media landscape has changed since then. So there a more fans with access to give there opinions.

Now we have a fanbase divided angry at the club and basically at the point where the vitriol is so strong we are at the point of no return for Jake.

I was there last night and was absolutely disgusted when the boo's were made in announcing Jake Arthur in the team. When he came on the boo's rang out again. The kid has done nothing wrong and does not deserve this treatment. If people want to boo the should boo the coach. In my opinion anybody booing there team or a player in that team are not true supporters. I have followed the Eels all my life and seen the good times and bad but have not and will never boo the team or our players. The people doing this should wake up to themselves.

yet some people here absolutely slate him 24/7, how is that any different ?

mob mentality
None of that is to him, it is venting over his place in the team.
While we may not act like it all the time, it think when it comes down to it i'd say most of us are mature enough to know the difference between posts on a forum and abusing a guy in person.

Are you for real? By definition of your question you believe the 2 are the exact same thing. FMD.

Criticising the coach for picking his son who is not up to 1st grade football ahead of other options on this forum is not in the same hemisphere of mindless drongos booing him and posting that they hate his guts etc etc on social media... Asserting they are the same thing is delusional.

I'm not sure how your summation is even remotely similar to what I said,

I'm talking about the JA name calling and rubbishing simply because he gets picked, he's not a selector.
