Did anyone see nine news sport last night? Apparently BA was on apologising for the Eels not making the semis this yr....heard the story was coming up in Sport on 9 when I was in the car listening to the radio...but can't see anything on WWOS or any posts on this forum..
Was interested to see if he trotted out more rinse and repeat lines

he pretty much confirmed that this is the squad going into 24..

so looking forward to Cini lining up in the centres come round 1..

Said its not good enough to not make the finals.

We tried hard but trying hard simply isn't good enough.

We had a squad that should have made finals and we all need to better including himself.

Hard to believe that considering that we really only had a legit 23 or 24 players to pick from. Maybe even less.

Problem is that Hands, Moretti and a few others are not top 30, so really we need to cut a bunch to get them in . If they are dev players, then we can't use them until June. Please tell me I am wrong.

The recruitment committee certainly deserve flak.

Its not that we lost the players we did. Like all the ones that left are they really worth it. Certainly this year has proven probably not. The Tigers & Dogs haven't improved with them in the side.

Marata still has his discipline issues but his versatility is missed.

We had over 12 months to find suitable replacements and made a mess of it.

Mahoney, Papali'i, Niukore all annouced they were leaving November 2021.

So we had 18 months not 5 mins to cherry-pick who we wanted to identify to replace those ones and picked 3 duds in Momoisea, Hodgson & Murchie but got a gun in Hopgood.

If we hit the 50% strike rate with our recuritment this year our depth would have been a lot stronger.

that would be correct unless we get exemption like um?? round 1 this year when we had to use an outside back outside the 30?? ....

really really poor planning..

we simply need to increase our outside back depth in the squad.

It's bad luck that Dunster recovered so slowly and that Waqa Blake declined further and that Loizou didn't progress like Penisini and Russell have.

But if we were able to win the middle more consistently like we have in previous years our outside backs wouldn't have been placed under so much pressure.

well he probably should of had the foresight to offer merkins with maybe 30-40 game NRL experience multi year deals instead of handing them to blokes like Cini on a platter who couldn't be offered a deal at a club that just won a spoon.

dumb decision and dumb planning in anyones language.

Cini has been outside the top 30 thus far. Pretty good for a bloke who carves up in reserve grade. Now he's into the final year of his contract and his first in the top 30. Where's the harm?

as it stands he's the next go to man if Will and Simo go down...

I don't know about you but that would be a frightening thought.

just like having to use Lume in round 1 this year and he's sitting outside the 30 ffs.

Journo asked if he regretted losing all those players in hindsight. Arthur's said not in hindsight, he regretted losing them at the time but that's how the salary cap works.

He also said he's happy with next year's squad because he doesn't have any other choice. "I'd like to have a wish list ... but this is what we've got."

Probably echoes the feelings of 14 other coaches who aren't Cleary and Walters.
