This is obvious. He met with Lomax before we signed him ffs. But having a say in recruitment doesn't mean coaches get the squad they want. If they want to keep a player and a rival offers overs, he's gone. During the salary cap fallout it came out that Arthur's agitated for the club to find TPAs so we could improve the squad. The reason is TPAs let you pay less under the cap and fit more talent in. Without resources like this it doesn't matter how much say the coach has.
He’s gone now you can have a rest, I’m sure he appreciates all the hard work you put in. If only he could get his players to do the same.

You can see why Bennett chose Souths over Parra though - Much bigger job in assembling a squad at Parra to be a premiership contender - could take years.

I know people say Bennett's the master coach but when you look at the squads he had at Bronco's for instance a lot of other coaches would have had the same success - Squads stacked with SOO and International players.

Bennett is no Big Jack Gibson who took on a number of difficult coaching roles during his 16 years as coach - firstly 1967 coaching Easts who were wooden spooners in 1965/66 and didn't win a game in 1966. Took the same squad to the finals in 1967 and again in 1968.

Eastern Suburbs - 1967-68
St George Dragons - 1970-71
Newtown - 1973
Eastern Suburbs - 1974-76
South Sydney - 1978-79
Parramatta - 1981-83
Cronulla - 1985-87

16 years as a coach - 6 Grand Finals and 5 Premierships

Gibson is the greatest coach of all time.

well I think they got it right, something had to be done

we could have signed Benny and the media would have still found something to whinge about
Player Managers and the media, it’s like choosing between real estate agents and used car salesmen for the biggest flog.
The media will just whinge regardless. They were whinging 3 weeks ago about the fact that Arthur’s time was up. Now they all the sudden are talking about how poorly he was treated. Absolute flogs
