Eels punt on Feleti Mateo as cleanout looms

Anyone know when Wagon's contract expires? Is it this year?

If not, he's def a shoe in to be shopped around - he's useless. He's like drawing a blank in scrabble, and because of him Parra have, for a decade, been paying for a squad of 25, and getting a squad of 24.

Hindy won't go anywhere. Give him a young pack of goers and he'd thrive AKA Menzies. The backs are OK - can't do much without competitive forwards. That's also Finch's problem too.

We miss Tim Smith and Tahu. And we need to cut the average age of the forwards - and without any acess to gossip I'd punt on Cayless and Hindy to be more secure than Fui, Wagon or Robinson.

I'm sure Drew will be bargain basement - in that case not a bad option.

As for the fear that all the good players are signed up, that's what Ryles, Kimmorley, Soward, and Newton also thought.

And is the old rumour about Bobcat coming home still alive?

I doubt we will shop hayne, not after all the work they went through to try and keep him away from souths.
Apparently that was just standard contract negotiations, and any memory of it taking extra time or effort is a figment of the imaginations of people who just don't like Hayne as a person etc.
[/agendawatch]

It would interest me to know whose decision it was to shop three players around - the coach or the club's? That would then give us a fair idea of which players would be on the list (perceived use next year/attitude vs pure financial consideration).

Despite reading Fitzy's comments of support of Hagan all along, I still can't believe that the club/board haven't twigged that there's some bad sh*t going on behind the scenes that needs fixing, and it hasn't been fixed all season.

I just had a scary thought. What if Fitzy does still believe in Hagan and has been convinced by him that certain players are the issue. What would you do if for example Hagan thought Hayne, Inu and Mateo were the problem and offloaded them for Drew etc as well as a contract extension for Hagan. He already did it at Newy letting Tahu and Kennedy go to get Carmont and Reynoldson. Sure there may have been a salary cap issue but the latter 2 were apparently on pretty big money according to all reports

Reynoldson was on big $ due to the pressure placed on Hagan to sign someone at the time. The club had finally released some money available to lure a decent player and made plenty of enquiries. in the end everyone snubbed them and Reyno was the last man standing - hence the big $ contract.

not sure how much Carmont would have been on. he was signed out of the local Newcastle competition.

and kept Johns, Bedurus, Kidley, Simpson...remember Joey's huge 'stay in league' contract?

Hagan has a year to run on his contract, and will be replaced. It's not like the Brian Smith situation, when you had to put up with him for a lifetime.

Reynoldson was on fire at Melbourne when Hagen signed him.

Adding fuel to the Brad Drew rumour, I've been told that Hages will be signing next years squad by going through his old footy cards. Meet the 2009 engine room, folks...

More combined guts there than in any three of our pack this season (sorry Hindy, you haven't got enough comrades in the trenches beside you).

Mind you, I'd prefer Hilditch in his playing days, rather than his coaching days with the paunch!

Burt was prefered over McKinnon because McKinnon wanted a 3 year contract. Burts 2 years is up (07, 08) now he can move on IMO. I would be happy for Benny to stay, Grothe needs to F**K off and the only other person I would want out would be finch(not a halfback IMO)

Classic example of letting the wrong player go.

Why not sign Ben Kennedy to a $1 contract to?
the way BK was playing his last two years at manly I really think he could single handedly lifted the entire parra pack on his shoulders and dragged them over the top 8 finish line, parra need a forward like this with passion and energy, intensity and a leader, it would rub off on the surrounding players, especially the youngin's

We let Kennedy and Tahu go to keep a few others. Namely sh*thouse players. Both Tahu and Kennedy were worth keeping regardless of the cost. That is the point with Hagan, he never seems to get it right in terms of who is good to go and who should stay.
