By the time you get a response, you won't give a rat's one way or the other

You honestly think You'd get a response?

I doubt the NRL would even read them.

Even though I like the idea, I've even suggested something similar before, I doubt the NRL would give fan letters any weight into a disciplinary decision, same as they shouldn't give anything in the media any weight.

I think we all need to be writing to the NRL

http://www.nrl.com/NRLHome/ContacttheNRL/tabid/10925/Default.aspx

Main points to plead:

1. be apologetic and saddened that our team cheated the cap in seasons past (and that we did so to come last!)
2. say you don't know what the current cap situation is, but point out that nothing in the news reports indicate we are over the cap for 2016
3. point out that every year the newspapers get excitable at Parramatta board election time.
4. ask that the NRL not judge the club based on speculative media reporting
5. gently indicate that we have been fined (and rightly so) for past indiscretions, and suggest that most of what we are reading in the papers seems to revolve around the past
6. ask what we (as leagues club members) can be doing? Does the NRL hold the view espoused by the papers that it is all on the board, and that if they go, we are in the clear?
7. gently ask for a response to point 6

The reason for points 6 and 7 is to see where the NRL are coming from - if they get back to you with no indication that sacking the board will do anything, then we're in the clear. If they say 'you know what, sack the board or lose 10 comp points', then maybe the papers were right...
You write it, copy and paste it here, we can all copy it and sign it and send one in each.
Problem solved.

Yeah but where/when/how? Otherwise again seems just like speculation

As I said, it's an allegation. I did not read the "evidence" posted by News Ltd TBH. I just know that Kent said on TripleM that overcharging suppliers etc was the smoking gun, he alleged.

I bet Ch9 will want us to remain competitive in 2016.

I'm sure they do, but they should have the same amount of input into NRL affairs as the media should. Zero.

If the NRL lets any media outlet sway their decision in any way, then they will instantly and permanently brand themselves as media puppets, and any respect they have with the fans will be gone.

And rightly so.

Stripping points for that season comes down to are they cheating in current year or not. NRL a transient sport.

Interesting view.

If we are compliant this year but found guilty of breaches in 2013/14 will the NRL take points?

Dogs / storm were stripped of points as it was shown they were cheating in that year. Think Warriors were over the cap in the year they were stripped points too.

So maybe we will be guilty of something but won't lose points.

If you word it well, you will definitely get a response.

Don't come across hostile, or bagging them out. Just make the points clearly, and they will have to listen. If they think the crap news ltd is spewing is what the NRL fans want, then they'll just trot out the punishment News Ltd has concocted...

If they get a form letter, much less likely to pay attention to it. Hence I didn't write a letter for people to copy paste. Yes, that would be easy, but just send in a paragraph, or even 5 sentences, telling them how we feel.

Maybe it will help them see the other side of this story?

I don't think he worded it well. Except the transient part. Was the real big issue with the Scum case, it was years after they'd reaped the rewards for cheating. Most people cared less what was happening to them in 2010 then what they had done for the previous 5 seasons. That said if we broke rules, we should receive appropriate penalty, but it also highlights the inefficiencies in the current salary cap system, which had already been highlighted over 5 years ago

What I think would be more effective, rather than begging the NRL not to dock points, or whatever, but to ask them come out and be clear on what the Eels are being investigated for, and to publicly reprimand the media for a) trying to influence the NRL and b) regurgitating old news and bringing one of its clubs into disrepute, and the NRL and the sport by extension.

Or something to that effect.

Also, ask them to confirm if they are attempting to remove our board by holding points to ransom, and voice your displeasure at the practice if it is true, and that it is the clubs members who decide who runs our club, not the NRL, and if changes need to be made we, the members, will make them. If the NRL is displeased with our current leadership, please feel free to let us know, so we can factor that into our decision process when choosing our new leadership.
