Bevan Paul named to take over as Parramatta Eels' boss

Bevan Paul has been charged with the responsibility of leading the Eels out of the mire after accepting the role as Group CEO.
Paul had been the CEO of the Parramatta Leagues Club, overseeing a period of prosperity for the business. But with a void in the Eels executive after the NRL handed breach notices to chairman Steve Sharp, CEO John Boulos, football general manager Daniel Anderson and directors Tom Issa and Peter Serrao, Paul has been asked to fill the breach.
The so-called "gang of five" aren't allowed to play any meaningful role at the club while they are given time to respond to the breach notice.
It's believed Paul was chosen for his strong compliance background, something the Eels are desperate for after the salary cap scandal threatened to wipe out their 2016 season. The Eels must win the vast majority of their remaining games to have any hope of qualifying for the playoffs. Officials believe Paul also has the financial expertise required to ensure the Eels can remain competitive while playing within the rules.
According to its last financial report, the Parramatta Leagues Club has repaid the best part of $15 million in debt over the past three years. "In 2016, I can report to members that the financial performance of the consolidated entity goes from strength to strength and your club is now poised to enter a period of development with strong cash flows, no borrowings and, in a few years' time will enjoy a financial security that will become the benchmark for other clubs," Paul wrote in the annual report.
Attempts to reach Paul on Friday night were unsuccessful

Parramatta to resist calls to bring in an outsider to run club

Parramatta is set to resist the urge to bring in an outsider to claw the Eels out of their salary cap mess as leagues club boss Bevan Paul prepares to take over the day-to-day running of the football club.

The Weekend Australian understands that Paul, chief executive of Parramatta Leagues Club, has been offered the opportunity to take on more responsibility as the football club looks to compensate for the loss of chief executive John Boulous and head of football operations Daniel Anderson.

Boulous and Anderson had their registrations suspended by the NRL amid allegations the club had committed breaches of the salary cap to the tune of $3 million over four years. Both men, along with three directors implicated in the investigation, are devoting their time to answering the allegations that have been levelled against them.

The club had looked at bringing in outside help, with former North Queensland chief executive Peter Jourdain and ex-Sydney Roosters boss Bernie Gurr mooted as potential interim officials. However, it is understood the remaining four members of the board have decided that Paul represents the best option given his intimate involvement with the leagues club, which funds the football side to the tune of several million dollars each year.

Paul has a burgeoning to-do list. The club has lost two sponsors in the wake of the salary cap scandal, leaving a space on the back of their jersey that needs to be filled. The club is also in the throes of negotiating contracts with several of their stars, most notably five-eighth Corey Norman.

Norman has made no secret of his desire to stay at the Eels and it is understood the decision to let hooker Nathan Peats go was in part to ensure the club had the funds to make a competitive offer to Norman.

The classy No 6 is expected to sign a new deal in coming weeks, helping provide some solace to the club’s supporters as they attempt to find some blue sky on a cloudy horizon.

Bevan Paul is the last person who should be running the club. Someone respectable like Burnie Gurr sounds like where we should be heading.

The 4 board members are also showing signs of
Jobs for boys AGAIN. Don't they have to advertise the position and go through a process so the best candidate is picked?

I'm sick of the shit management of this club. Time for a new independent board.

Yep 100%, we are going to be watched carefully and i think it is a very bad look to promote someone from inside at present.
Again it just looks like another Yes man brought in.
The Good CEO we had in the since Fitzy was shafted was Ken Edwards but I'd say he saw the writing on the wall and was smart enough to get out.

He seems to have done well with the Leagues club but surely the right option was someone experienced to run the football side of things????
