So.....do any of you chaps still reckon there's no chance that our behaviour constituted fraud?

Who was deceived ? If Seward/Irvine/Nolan (for example) took merchandise cash takings and used it to pay players in carparks, then it is fraud if he did it without sanction of his employer.

I have been confident since this whole thing started that there was a level of fraud involved.
I am now more than confident that there has been a level of fraud involved.

Seward is going to regret providing his information to the NRL. He appears to have been the main perpetrator in this whole situation.

Prolly why Seward has been saying that his bosses knew what he was doing.

Such alleged behaviour is also potentially fraud if it was done with the sanction of the board (or members thereof).....it just changes the allocation of responsibility. There is the issue of both the alleged payment, and any possible financial reporting irregularities used to obscure the nature of any alleged payments.

TBH I don't think anyone here gives a crap if the GO5, Seward, Irvine, Nolan or before them Spagnolo etc get charged by any authority who finds grounds.

Natural selection will always catch the idiots in the end.

If they lied about money to the government (ATO, OLG, etc) that would be a big thing, but if they kept clean books (by the govt's standards) but lied their asses off the NRL, would it be criminal? I mean the NRL's rules aren't laws, as long as they abide by the actual law, they'd be ok, right? It's not against the law to cheat the salary cap of the NRL.

But I can't see how their dealings, especially given the new information would be 100% legal.

No, I don't care if the lot of them go to jail.

As long as it doesn't hurt the club itself, (gaming & liquor licenses, etc) they can lock them all up for all I care.

Nothing will harm the club. Employees will face sanctions OLGR might require better governance, but that's happening anyway.

Not like that's not needed anyways..

One thing's for sure, the club (as an entity) should fully co-operate, even if it means throwing club personnel to the wolves (assuming they're guilty of course, not stitching up innocent people)

Yeah f**k em

The fact that Seward has gone and spilled it all believing that just cos his mate Toddy had given him a pardon that he had nothing to fear, just goes to show what a dimwit the guy is

Player mangagers are going to be investigated but so should players. I know some players come across as hopelessly stupid but when $30 000 automatically appears in your bank account or if you a meeting some bloke who gives you cash that player has to be implicated. Then there was the Melbourne marquee set up. Hold some of these players to account.

Yes Paul Kent was all red faced about Hayne coming back and he said that he wanted a full confession of what cash he received.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander: Inglis and his boat, any merkin at Brisbane who benefited from Andrew Gee, the list goes on. I reckon all the elite players in the NRL would have received deposits in their banks accounts or have their rent paid. Can of worms Toddy.

Who do you think we are defrauding?
Not saying it isn't the case, but I don't think the ATO have suggested we have defrauded them. They'll probably go back last 4 years and audit them before deciding if there is fraud involved.
I'm not completely sure how OLGA works. Can you defraud them? Mislead certainly but would it constitute fraud? I'm not sure how OLGA operates.
The only other fraud case I can see is against members funds and really that will only be likely if money didn't go to players but to other people.
Money laundering and couple of others are probably more likely.
Anyway it's more just semantics over level of offence, like the Bitchell Pissed level of assault case.

And no Jake, I'm not in love with Sharp, just a consideration on the legal aspects
