Even if they hand it down today, there is still an appeal process with NRL Appeals Committee, chaired by former High Court Justice Ian Callinan, QC, so it's not likely to be resolved ASAP anyway.

Maybe this exchange will help a few posters on here to realise the implications of what they post.

I think to sue for defamation it would need to be proven that the audience to which you are claiming you have been defamed thinks the way you do about yourself, and not the way the defamer makes you out to be.

Or, to give a real example:
No matter how stupid anyone on here makes out Raaaay or Fitz to be, they can't sue the site for defamation (or a poster for posting it), because the audience to which the post is intended already thinks that Raaaay or Fitz are stupid. (etc)
It doesn't mean they ARE stupid, but if that is the perception of them in a certain circle, then you can't sue someone in that circle for saying you are to others in that circle - you haven't been defamed to anyone, because they already thought that of you.

Sort of...it depends on whether the published material has the potential to damage the complainant's reputation. Generally saying that someone is an idiot is unlikely to cause too much trouble on a forum.

If you go making allegations about people's specific acts (e.g. Director X did Y), and the allegations are not substantively true, and the alleged behaviour could conceivable damage reputation.....you've got a problem.
