Have fun getting your hands on the ball only 2-3 times each game Izzy. He has successfully made the decision to leave one code he considered boring and then signing with the most boring code of them all

To add wood to the fire, TheRam spoke to a person with very strong connections to the Eels and the individual in question said the deal is done and will be announced soon. The person appeared confident in his manner and tone.

And no, TheRam has no reason to lie.
Oops.

How is it ooops exactly? Inside sources were confident this morning. Unless you are referring to the club, then yes, massive oops.
He did want to play for us, but the Eels and the NRL lingered too long and he got a better offer. Bad management by both the Eels and the NRL. Anyone that thinks the NRL losing out on him is a good thing are idiots.

I think it will cost the NRL quite a bit of marketing $$$ but at least they are trying to apply a consistent precedent. I hope that they don't change their policy for other clubs in the future.

I don't get this marketing/foolau stuff. I'll name 5 players off the top of my head in Sydney that are better than this money grabbing winger.
Hayne. Marshall. Barba. Jennings. Reynolds from souffs.

Foolau can piss off and play rugby, tiddlywinks, lingerie football or shoot himself for all I care.

I'm not fussed, I was hoping for a big signing to boost the brand but we need more forwards anyway.

As for marketing, the guy was the AFL's major brand for GWS. Stealing him back would have been a big victory. It also would've created a lot more interest for the Eels - a few extra hundred or thousand always helps.

Not a massive loss, but a loss nonetheless.

I think the rules not being broken to bring a douchebag turncoat pea heart mercenary wanker trackhead f**kwit like f**kau back into the game is a good thing.

As for lingering too long, wtf? It's only been four weeks since he left the AFL.

Face it, he's a mercenary. All this time he was talking about Parramatta as though Jesus himself had commanded that he had to play there, then out of the blue suddenly he's taking up a deal to play Rugby Union.

This isn't a guy who just wants to play Rugby League. This is a guy who wants to make as much money as possible from whoever is willing to pay him, even if he is shit at the sport. And you know what? Good on him if he can get it.

It doesn't mean that the rules are broken to let him back in, especially so given that most of his contract with the AFL was paid for by the organisation with the express intent of promoting AFL in the NRL heartland.

I wouldnt call it "stealing him back" anyway. Regardless of where he signed for 2013 he has already left AFL, theyre done with the whole thing and have their own problems to deal with. Id have liked to have seen him back in the NRL but i dont think its much of an issue with regards to marketing.

for the record, i think he'll still be back in 2014 but really not fussed either way, it just means that the Eels might not be the only side after him then.

Hard to reply on an iPhone so I'll keep it short - yes he seems a mercenary to me, and as much as you may not like it, it is pretty indisputable that he would have created a lot of interest for whichever club signed him. Hence, losing him is not a good thing. If he was after the money though, then eh, he'll probably be back in a year. I was mostly hoping to sign him so that we could actually have our first 'star' recruit in years.

If he signs for another club I don't care anymore.
By the way, four weeks is actually long for someone that would obviously want his future settled, particularly when teams are really getting into the pre season there.

As I said in the other thread, I would rather the ARLC set a precedent that cap concessions will not be granted instead of seeing Folau run around for the Eels.

Izzy is a money grabbing wanker whose main claim to fame was an ability to catch a high ball in a city used to fumbling stick insects. The eels needed him like Ricky Stuart needs angry pills. I'm glad he's gone to penalty ball. Hopefully some fat bastard prop falls on him and sends him to his beloved Jesus.
