Eels seeking permission to cheat salary cap...

How would they manage this "extra $300K outside the cap"? Payments that are linked to the club, members or sponsors all go under the cap. Only 3rd party deals with no links can be exempt

How did Melbourne, Warriors and Bulldogs cheat the cap? There are obviously ways to hide the money easily. IIRC the NRL didn't catch any of them it was a whistleblower for Bulldogs and Melbourne and when new management for the Warriors they discovered and reported the breach to the NRL

So what you're saying is...

...unless they should be.

Genius.

I thought that was obvious. If they are the right person for the job, get them in. If they aren't, don't. Unfortunately for everyone, this is not always the case, and many ex-players are not recruited based on what they would actually bring to the job.

Take a look at the Eels board and its former CEO. That will give you all you need. Should Ray Price be involved in running a club? No, because he isn't at all suited for it. But he is because he is a legend of the game, short and simple. Hence, my point that the NRL needs to stop "keeping it internal" and look at better options. I have no qualms with them recruiting ex-players if they actually can do the job and perform it effectively.

Look, I'm sorry for not making it clear that I meant that certain individuals shouldn't be recruited based solely on their experience with the game rather than actual qualifications. Now that you've called me out on it and I've elaborated on it, let's move on and forget it. Deal?

maybe schubert should be stepping in when a players getting paid too much over value e/g sandow

Haha. Touche.

I have no problem with Parra signing Falou. However, I believe they must adhere to the cap.
So, if they have 100K left, that's all he gets this season. Tough tities Izzy. You chose to leave and take the cash in AFL and you chose to jump out of your AFL contract before it was up. Therefore you get what's left. And if it aint what you want then f**k off.

That said, didn't Schubert already set a precedence with Gasnier/ St George telling them they couldn't register a contract under a certain value?? Sign him up for a pittance and you are cheating the cap anyway.

I'm not sure if the cap was designed to cater for rep players and stars who like to piss off and earn better money yet do a backflip later on because it's not going so flash and they want back in. Clubs can't be expected to leave half a million out of the cap in case one of these blokes "happens" to want to come back at the drop of a hat. That's the players problem if there's not enough cash for him.

Personally, I think they should pay a very large monetary penalty for causing so many f**king problems when they return. They need to be penalised some how.

I feel for the blokes who are going to get the chop at Parra to fit Falou in. One day you go to training with your focus on your team and club and the next you're out the door to allow a bloke who has just earnt a few million in another code because he doesn't like it anymore. Just doesn't sit well.

That's the thing though Spot On. Izzy has agreed to be paid around that figure for 2013. Schubert is the one that is blocking the deal.

Yes point taken. I referred to your points in the paragraphs below below where you've highlighted.

You let him in for 100K and really the cap is still being abused.

It's a double edged sword.

i'd be happy if he was valued at 250 maybe 275 400 thousand is a bit steep and hard too find cap room with letting go of players when every club has there 25 ... if i Was the ceo of parramatta i'd say too izzy go have a break go play rugby travell the world maybe do some eating come back in a years time and we can give u what you want

...and don't think Falou's manager will be kosher with Falou signing for 100K. Not much of a sling for him there. He'll be hoping for 400K. Praying for it.

To add wood to the fire, TheRam spoke to a person with very strong connections to the Eels and the individual in question said the deal is done and will be announced soon. The person appeared confident in his manner and tone.

And no, TheRam has no reason to lie.

This appears to be a bigger issue than the "Izzy on wants $50 furphy"

Parramatta's proposal to have the club's cap raised to $5.4 million for next year but reduced by $400,000 - to $4.6 million - for 2014.

No to the NRL ... Israel Folau. Photo: Dallas Kilponen

The Parramatta Eels and the NRL will announce on Friday that Israel Folau will not play rugby league next season after the cross-code star advised the club that he has taken up a lucrative offer to play rugby union.
Folau, who announced on November 1 he was leaving AFL club the Greater Western Sydney Giants, had been involved in protracted negotiations with Parramatta and NRL to return to the code next season.
Fairfax Media understands that the NRL and Parramatta Eels had come to an agreement to fit Folau under the salary cap, but the player has opted to take a higher offe

Good. Glad the ARLC didn't sacrifice crucial principles that make the comp fair just for him when he chose the bigger money playing hit and giggle rugby.
