I just watched the game v Penrith myself. Some of my observations were:

Hodkinson will be a loss. He has a great kicking game, a great build for a 7 and is miles ahead of Daniel Mortimer. In my view he looks and plays very similar to Brett Finch. When you consider that Finch recently signed a 3 year deal you cannot blame the kid for wanting to go.

Nathan Gardener had a good game, is a little short for a traditonal fullback but looks like a future NRL winger. He already is bigger then Luke Burt.

Baumann, Tim Robinson and Tim Mannah will end up playing over 150 plus NRL games. Tim Robinson and Mannah have one vital ingredient that we have been lacking. Size. They were relentless, tough, with plenty of go forward. I can now understand why they let J. Mannah go. It would have been a choice between he or Tim Robinson and Robbo mark 2 is a player with plenty of endurance and is also on face value a better defender then J. Mannah. Marty Lewis is also a very good player however will possibly look for other opportunities later on when you consider that we have Mateo as our long term lock.

Kris Keating showed them who was boss. He showed the boys that he had recent NRL experience and it was there for all to see. Well done Krimpy!! I am so glad we have you for another couple of seasons.

The last thing that I observed which impressed me most was Anthony Mitchell. What a class player!!!!. He is so nippy and creative from hooker. Once he matures and gains a little more size he will be the best hooker that we have produced in a long long time.

Good summation. That is exactly how I saw it too. (Does that make you scared.)

TBH pete, I'm surprised that someone with your experience is making comparisons and bringing down a first grade player as against someone who has never played the top grade.
Honestly, how can you compare the two?

Tim Robinson was very impressive, i remember him putting a couple of good solid shots on Joseph Paulo who has played FG for the Panthers this season. He has got a good frame to add some serious muscle onto but i'd give him a good couple of seasons to come into FG. Mannah looks the goods also. It was weird to see a parra pack surging forward punching through the line and not landing on their backs.

Is Robinson and Mannah too old for NYC next season? love to see these guys play against some mature front rowers in NSW cup.

Young Eels have a date with destiny at Suncorp Stadium

BY JOHN MACDONALD
16/09/2008 10:24:00 AM
Parramatta will have momentum on their side when they meet St George Illawarra in a sudden-death Toyota Cup semi-final at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday. The Eels knocked out Penrith 24-16 at Brookvale Oval on Saturday night, while the Warriors thrashed the Saints 47-20 on Sunday.
Parramatta have not lost in eight weeks: the Dragons have only won one from eight.
It was a measure of the confidence coach Matt Cameron has in his young charges that Kris Keating returned from NRL duties at fullback, and not in the halves.
Trent Hodkinson stayed at halfback.
"Kris defended at No.1 but played first and second receiver in attack, so things didn't change too dramatically,'' Cameron said.
Cameron said although Penrith had beaten them in their two previous clashes, the results had been close.
"The draw helped us,'' he said of the last four matches which saw the Eels toughened up by playing finals contenders.
He paid tribute to the unsung members of the squad - the phsyiotherapists - who had kept the players healthy through the gruelling schedule.
"We'll train exactly the same and fly up to Brisbane on Friday,'' he said.
Parramatta got a flyer on Saturday night when Hodkinson chipped in behind the defensive line for David Baumann to score a converted try in the seventh minute.
Then dummy half Anthony Mitchell scored from 12 metres, and when Nathan Gardner raced 50 metres after receiving a magical Keating cut out ball, they led 14-0 after 15 minutes.
Too easy it seemed, but it wasn't.
Penrith surged back and it wasn't until Gardner scored his third try three minutes from the siren that the match was safe.
The match video will be one Gardner will want to keep; he scored 16 points.
Wentworthville also piled on the points in their NSW Cup semi-final against the Cronulla Cobras at Ringrose Park.
Wenty won 46-16, gaining a week's rest before their next finals game at Campbelltown Sports Ground on Sunday week.
Wenty were looking to recover their best after an indifferent lead-in after being first and second all season.
The Magpies only led 12-6 at halftime but rediscovered that best in the second half.
Forwards Jeremy Latimore and Nathan Cleaver dominated and replacement forward Mitch Stanfield matched them.
The platform provided, halves James Maloney and Greg O'Grady did the rest.

His name is Mark not Greg. It has been in the Team Line ups since the start of the year. Mark. Not a hard name to remember.

Gardiner may not be bigger than Burty but he runs the ball harder, which is maybe why he appears bigger, and he has something that you can't teach, and that is speed.

if you are gunna quote shakespeare pp at least do it right.

Actually I was doing Frank Bacon...
If I was doing Billy, I would have posted this -

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

Price Names 20-man Squad for U20's Eels Clash

Dragons Toyota Cup Coach Steve Price has today selected a 20-man squad for semi-final number one against the Eels at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday.

The Dragons defeated the Eels 34-24 in round nine this year and had a 26-all draw the second time these sides played in round 25.
