ENG vs FRA

Very strange game. England scored 18 points in the first 8 minutes and then 46(!) points in a 17 minute period before and after half-time. It went from 22-4 to 68-4 without France touching the ball, they just completely stopped defending for a period.

Maybe this will encourage France to stop fielding a joke team and take internationals more seriously. What we saw today was virtually a reserve side against a full-strength England, I'm not sure what they expected to happen.

I think England have done plenty to help them, they brought in Catalans and now Toulouse are entering (via League One). What more can England really do? They also have the enormous task of improving themselves in order to catch the Aussies and Kiwis.

I am really disappointed in the Catalans and the way they seem to put all their emphasis and resources into signing Aussies rather than developing local players.

This!!

Im sick and tired of here "england needs to do more to help france"

Its not our fault catalan fill their team with aussies, its not our fault toulouse failed first time around (we've actually given then another crack),its not our fault the french hire a shit coach , its not our fault the french backed out of the mid season tests which led to us playing the exiles instead....and its not our fault the french are f**king lazy and gutless!!!

After australia & england the french have the 3rd best domestic setup, its far more developed than kiwi domestic scene..

They have ALL THE TOOLS to be the 4th best nation by a mile..the reason they aren't is all on the french!!! Its no one elses fault!

It's hard to feel any sympathy for them when they do get the chance to play and then turn up without virtually any of their best players.

Until young French kids get snapped up by English clubs, France will never get close to beating a top three team.....questions have to be asked why France, that has more players, better domestic competition than NZ, yet are so far behind...

The only reason why the Kiwis are in the position they are in now is largely down to the U20's Competition and the development of NZ players by NRL clubs..

The way this match against France has been executed today is embarrassment to the International Rugby League.......to be honest its going backwards....

At least with the NRL we are seeing massive strides in the development of PNG and soon to be Fiji.

It is not England's fault. France has serious problems on many levels.

The first thing you can do to help is to go to the Villeneuve thread and buy a Polo to get them over the 30,000€ line.

I just don't think the national team is taken seriously anymore. I feel The French know they can (should) cruise to Euro victories each year, but know against the big three they are no chance. They know their place and know it doesn't matter how hard they try they can't really do much better.

I mean look at the caliber of players that are leaving the NRL this year to play in the Super League..

Surely if England can get France and Wales up to a higher standard by developing their junior players through Super League...it can only benefit England in the long run?? Especially whilst Super League loses all the best players to the NRL...

Who's leaving SL for the NRL? Joe Burgess. Who are all these 'best players' leaving SL?

Absolute hyperbole. The past 12 months for international league have been incredible. Samoa emerged as the legitimate 4th team, New Zealand defeated Australia 3 times in a row, European/WC games are all in full swing.

It is such a rugby league mentality that after one result, a flogging of this nature that we all throw our hands in the ear and say "Everything's horrible!".

Not to make excuses for the French, but they were without 12 of their players and seemed to have been caught out by the English initial promotion of the test as a friendly. As they are in middle of European Cup, cant be blamed for resting a few of their players for that tournament.

And for perspective, this game was a bigger blow than the any game at the 2013 World Cup. It was an anomaly. International League wasn't over when Australia used to beat NZ and ENG by 50 points.

France and England must play against each other every year, preferably in France. It is the only way that France will eventually improve. We cannot seek to abandon any matches they may play simply for fear that there will be a 80+ scoreline. On their day, as we saw in 2013 QF, France are only 20+ points off England.

Agree with you there. Shocking result, but let's all take a few deep breaths and move on. It's not the end of the world.

These are not valid excuses anyhow. Ok, I accept there were a few key players injured, but beyond that, there's no excuse. 'In the middle of the Euro Cup' yeah? and? If anything, that's an ADVANTAGE as they've played a match together whilst the English haven't yet. If they 'rested' players, then they're idiots. There's nothing to play for in this year's Euro Cup. It was last year's comp where a Four Nations and WC spot was at stake. and finally, the word 'friendly' simply means it's not a part of any competition or series. Other than that, it was an RLIF-sanctioned international that counts towards world rankings.

Agree, but they need to start doing their part too. As a few of us have said, you can lead the horse to water....

Well that's embarrassing for French Rugby League.

Will it be a fatal blow, a wake up call or business as usual?

I've said it once, I'll say it again. The French need to come on an Oz-Pac Iles tour. Play a few NRL teams, the Pac Iles, get them some needed funds and give the players a decent tour experience with hard honest but not too overwhelming competition.

I think we need to revist RLWC qualifying process

I think only Top 3 plus hosts should qualify automatically

The rest need to go through qualifiers. Creates extended TV interest

Plus we really need to expand the 4N to 6N mid world cup. These Tier 2 nations need to play top teams more

Theres gonna be a 8 team "fed cup" inbetween every world cup from 2017

2017 - RLWC

2018 - tours & fed cup qualifying

2019 - federation cup (teams that don't qualify would likely tour)

2020 - tours & RLWCQ

2021 - RLWC

repeat

Such dissapointment, will we ever see a competitive French team again in our lifetime. Is there a plan for France rugby league? I know thy just got the approval to start school competitions and have taken over touch football but they need a long term plan and money! The rfl have helped them by having two French teams in their competitions but they could do more. Do the rfl and ffr XIII meet regularly?

All the Burgess brothers, Sam Tomkins, Graham, Joe Burgess, Cooper, Ellis, Hodgson, Elliott Whitehead ..and what does Super League get Back?

Ben Crooks
Justin Horo
Glenn Stewart
Dave Taylor
Ryan Hinchcliffe
Sam Rapira
Mahe Fonua
Sika Manu
Frank Pritchard
Carlos Tuimavave
Dane Tilse
Beau Falloon
Keith Galloway
Robert Lui
Ben Murdoch-Masil
Dominique Peyroux
Mitchell Dodds
Kurt Gidley
Corey Thompson

And out of that list i would only say Pritchard, Hinchcliffee and Horo would be any good or would have other NRL teams interested in them...the rest are old, completely out of form for the past couple of years or couldn't really make it in the NRL.

Even Super League Coaches are saying the same thing: Super-League-is-becoming-a-feeder-competition-for-the-NRL-warns-Keironl
