About three years ago, before the idiotic dual registration system was introduced.

Some Championship teams run reserve sides and always have done, and it looks like the four SL clubs will just be joining that competition.

Thought this might be of interest to some of us here....

Massive effort by the Thunder, even though the Magic Weekend crowd (2,500ish) did boost their average. Also Keighley would have been way down were it not for the 4000-odd that turned up for the Danny Jones memorial match.

For those who are interested in leagues below League 1 this season's Conference League South will be:

Valley Cougars
Torfaen Tigers
West Wales Raiders
Gloucestershire All Golds Reserves
Coventry Bears Reserves
Leicester Storm
Nottingham Outlaws
London Chargers

The first three named are all Welsh. For the Australians unfamiliar with this league it is effectively the top league for Midlands, Southern and Welsh clubs below League 1 (theoretically they can play in the all northern National Conference League)

cheers bowes! Gee that's quite a distance for an amateur division isn't it? Best of luck to them all, I hope they can handle it financially.

Yeah there aren't enough clubs to run strong local divisions. This is the fourth season of the league (it's sort of a successor to the old National League 3/Rugby League Conference National), the first two seasons were a struggle but last year the league finally became a success. London Chargers and Gloucestershire All Golds reserves are the new sides this year. You're right about the travel being an issue though as whilst the league has been successful for the midlands and Wales it has really struggled to attract clubs from the South East

Is that a 14-round season then? I suppose that would make it a bit more bearable if so, especially if the matches are spread out a bit.

16 rounds but they've regionalised the extra 2 fixtures as well as they possibly can (means two extra games against midlands clubs for London Chargers)

Sadly Leicester have dropped out now leaving a 7 team league
What?? Leicester Storm!?

I thought things were going well for them, just the other day on facebook they posted that 250 people turned up to watch them in a friendly match! Very sad for the midlands region, which was gaining some nice momentum over the last few years.

They struggled a bit on the field last year and there was something on the Facebook page about them having an emergency meeting and a new committee. The club will keep going but it will be in the Midlands Premier (North)

Right, I hope they can re-group and get back in soon!

Just read Swinton are building a new stadium. Any idea on the size of it? I'm guessing it'll be something no bigger than the one Coventry Bears play at, seeing as they refer to it in the article as a 'community club stadium'.

Anything is good news for Swinton, they have been homeless for 25 years. I thought they were done as a club so this is great news that they are moving back to an area that is currently unrepresented.

Agreed! Fantastic news! As they said in the article, during that time, they may well have lost an entire generation of potential fans! I just asked in case anyone here had some more details about it.
