It is good news but they really need to secure a return to Sheffield in some way, playing in Doncaster is a joke.

Last i heard, don valley was getting redeveloped for them now but not sure of completion date. Unless someone else has other news

its beyond me why they did'nt off to take over the running of don valley stadium??

the eagles could have ripped out the running track and moved the pitch over next to that huge grandstand..would have been alright that i reckon.

The idea of a marquee player rule in the championship is daft. Realistically 2 or 3 clubs could afford it and it would end in tears.

The Lower 8 competition, for which their is a trophy???? is an utter farce now.
Fev have to win 1 of their 7 games to qualify for the semi-finals, London and Dewsbury 2 games each to qualify.
The actual fixtures are out on Wednesday, but if they get the scheduling wrong here (and in the middle 8) then attendances will plummet........I can't see many fans travelling to London from Donny or Hunslet, Batley or Workington.

For me, this is the only flaw in the Super 8s system, the bottom tier and the lack of incentive for the top teams. Here's what I suggest to possibly fix it and add some incentive:

Top 2 teams (plus the four of the middle 8 teams) get a bonus point that carries in to the following season. So, 6 of the 12 teams will start the next season on 1 point. I know it's not much, but with the bottom two going down and the top two getting a slight advantage going in to the next season, it gives almost every teams something to play for.

I think the 888 System is flawed in more ways than this.

In the Super 8's, the top 3 are pretty much already known so the only question is who will make the last semi-final spot.
The middle 8's is wholly dependant on scheduling.....and it's pretty much assured that Wakefield will play Leigh in the million pound game
In the releg8's, as we've said, 3 of the top 4 are already known and it's simply a question of who will join Donny in the drop.
Attendances for the season are down across the same 24 sides last year and there are some "dead rubbers" in these 3 divisions that will deliver horrible crowds......Salford at home to Sheffield for one....Halifax at home to Salford another.

I'd have preferred a return to one up/one down or a play-off between last and first.

I am not to worried about the bottom 8's every team has had 11 home games in the revular season which is more than enough. Everything now is post season and the bottom split is really more about the fight for survival than the shield but still nice to have something to play for.

Would not add any more complexity than current system

I wouldn't say it adds any complexity to it at all. I'm just trying to think of these clubs trying to sell tickets to the matches, you gotta have something to play for.

I doubt the likes of Featherstone and London Broncos will care much about lifting this shield at the end of the bottom 8.

as ive said in this thread..ive been involved in meetings with chris hamilton, the owner,recently..and brokered a meeting between hamilton & the supporters trust for the first time in nigh on 10 years..

on the subject of whitebank..its messy but basically two-thirds of the site is own by oldham council with the remaining third owned by a housing association company and the rugby club as a agreement from both parties to lease the site..

chris hamilton sees the future of the club at whitebank and a announcement on a major redevelopment of whitebank is imminent..thats what he said in the first meeting..

reading between the lines i think the major redevelopment to mean the errection of 2 stands we got from salfords old ground the willows

its the 30m section nearest the camera and the 30m section furthest from the camera..that would give us around 1000 seats...and then with small terraces around the other 3 sides of the ground would give us a total capacity of around 4000...which is plenty enough

whether it ever happens is another matter...

most fans and the trust want us to return to boundary park but at the moment theres issues about unpaid rent from last time we played there apparently...

as i said on the roughyeds messageboard this week..i hope we win our league cos it'll force the club to answer some very serious questions...cos we can't play championship rugby at whitebank in its current state..nor can we fix whitebank in the offseason before the start of the 2016 season...so we either spend a season out of town again...or hamilton ressolves his issues with boundary park...

cos i tell you what if we win the league and won't be allowed up it's all but kill pro RL in oldham...and thats on chris hamiltons head im afraid

So is the football clubs only issue with ground share past unpaid rent? Would seem lunacy for a town/council of that size to have two stadiums. Whats the relationship like between league and football in the area, is there much crossover or exclusively one or the other in general?

I hope oldham can get the it sorted anyway, they certainly should be playing higher than league one

theres a decent crossover...don't forget up until the late 80s oldham was pretty much exclusively a RL town..

Crowds pretty meh so far in all games, no boost to be seen that the gates post split. Crowd at leigh v rovers only 3500 for an afternoon game particularly poor given whats at stake for leigh.

I think it'll get better. It was short notice and the drop has been in the away fans more than the home fans. Look at headingley for instance, maybe 300 or so Wire fans, plus they were there 6 days before too in the cup semi final. Hull to Leigh is 170km too and again, it's against a team seen as inferior a week after a cup semi final with 1 weeks notice.

Leigh showed that they are well coached, they play a better brand of footy than most SL clubs.
I thought Hock tried hard, Brierley showed his class but Fui Fui was a waste of space, his defence was rubbish and he only ran the ball up 4 times.
Really disappointed that they couldn't hang on for the win.
Puletua was strong for HKR.
