Entire Wests Tigers Board Sacked

I was 6 years old the last time my team won a grand final. Since then I’ve gone through primary school, high school, university, had numerous jobs, partnered up, bought a house and had two kids.

The Eels still roll out the 80s heroes whenever they can to keep us idiots excited with nostalgia. The Tigers obviously learned it from us…but we’ve been doing it way longer.
At least you managed 4 premierships out of that lot. We didn’t even manage 4 finals series appearances.

Living and working around SW Sydney (Bankstown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Campbelltown etc), the WT have squandered a huge opportunity over the past 24 years or so.

By not having a unified back office, board and playing out of 3-5 grounds, wearing two dozen types of jerseys that are more Wests Magpies than Tigers, without nurturing and caring for their huge footprint, they’ve continued to bumble with high priced recruits whilst letting too much talent slip through their fingers. They’ve had a coaching merry go round. They’ve been losing which isn’t good for business or the fan base.

Yet what remains of their fan base is loyal to the core.

My two cents worth - wear a predominantly orange jersey to stand out. Play at Campbelltown more often than not ( fill it and then pressure the govt to shiny up the joint a la Parra) and slowly but surely back a coach and build a roster. Hit the community, f**k the past and look to the future. The Narellan MacArthur region is going to go off in the next ten years with the homes, businesses and airport going in.

To any Tigers fans, just stay true. The shitshows do eventually end.

Seems only the Tigers board can't see that

Tigers part company with Nofoaluma after $300k payout

By Adrian Proszenko and Michael Chammas

Updated January 23, 2024 — 2.36pm

David Nofoaluma has officially parted company with Wests Tigers after accepting a $300,000 payout to walk away from the final two years of his contract.

The developments ends an ugly standoff between the club and its greatest tryscorer, who will no longer be required to front a new-look Tigers board after an agreement was struck to part company.

The tension between the parties was at breaking point; the Tigers had issued Nofoaluma with a second breach notice within in a month, while explosive accusations were made by the winger to the Rugby League Players’ Association that rookie coach Benji Marshall told him that he would not play NRL again if he stayed at the Wests Tigers.

Almost eight years ago, a nasty feud erupted between club legend Robbie Farah and then-coach Jason Taylor, who tried to push the hooker out of the club by indicating his future would be in reserve grade if he stayed.

History was threatening to repeat itself until a severance had been agreed to on Tuesday. Wests Tigers declined to comment when contacted by the Herald.

Nofoaluma’s second sanction in a month came last week after he failed to adhere to club protocols when it comes to missing training due to illness.

The veteran winger notified a club official that he was not going to be able to attend training last Monday due to a bout of gastro, however did not respond to the club doctor’s attempts to contact him for the next 48 hours.

The club, after numerous attempts by several people to contact him, had to send a player to his house to check on Nofoaluma’s welfare.

This masthead first revealed in December that Nofoaluma refused to turn up to training over a perception of unfair treatment from the club, including the training methods adopted by the coaching staff.

Nofoaluma struggled physically and with his fitness levels upon returning to pre-season training and was one of the team’s least impressive performers in a time trial, struggling to keep up with the new standards at the club driven by Marshall.

After a series of meetings with the club and the RLPA, Nofoaluma returned to training almost two weeks later but was then sanctioned by the club for arriving late for a training session before the Christmas break.

Nofoaluma, who still has two seasons to run on his deal with the joint venture club worth about $525,000 a season, once again finds himself in hot water after being served another breach notice last week.

Nofoaluma has been handed at least three breach notices by the club in recent years.

This masthead reported back in 2021 that he was stood down from the club’s senior leadership group after turning up to training hungover the morning after the wedding of former chairman Lee Hagipantelis’ daughter.

Nofoaluma, who was at the wedding alongside then-coach Michael Maguire, was unable to finish the session the following morning and was sanctioned for his indiscretion.
The Tigers have been trying to offload the winger to a rival club for the past two years and even lent him to the Melbourne Storm at the end of 2022 as part of a loan deal for the final few games of the regular season and the finals.

Nofoaluma has scored 100 tries from 192 games for the Tigers since his debut for the joint venture club in 2013.
His services have been offered to rival clubs on numerous occasions over the past two years, but the Tigers haven’t been able to agree on the amount they would contribute as part of his release. Nofoaluma had also attracted interest from the Super League.

It’s definitely where the future should be, there are 3 fan bases in the club - Balmain, Magpies and Wests Tigers. Sadly the club is in the hands of the first two. You would be surprised how many fans really don’t care about the Balmain/Wests factions at all. Even someone in their mid 40s would have spent more time following the merged team as opposed to the original club.

At the point the club accepts this they can start to build, no one seems to want to pull the trigger. 10 home games at Campbelltown with a couple of Leichhardt games as a nostalgic choice against the lesser followed teams seems a no brainer.

9/3 split seems more likely, but at this point moving permanently to SW syd isn't going to happen when concord is where they spend the bulk of their training.. should just do 6/6 and see which way the wind blows, holding games at neutral venues like homebush and commbank, hasn't helped them solidify an identity, all it has done is give them more mula from gate takings for the bigger derbys, best to try and pack out the smaller stadia for a bit, and see which area is better to stay FT with, then you can send a few interstate rivals to the token few campbelltown or token few liechardt games, while playing the bulk in the other

I can go with that. Give Leichhardt the games like Titans, Dolphins, Warriors, Cowboys - interstate teams with a relatively small Sydney following. They’ll draw a crowd regardless. Campbelltown generally draws a smaller crowd, but if you commit to the area you’ll build the fanbase. With the A-League also committing to the region it is definitely possible the state gov will give the ground a facelift and a 25k capacity with multiple tenants.

The concord headquarters whilst not ideal, was decided as it would make recruitment easier as concord is an easier sell than Campbelltown. Ironically, Sheens picked that as a location to try and unify the 2 sides over 20 years ago (one training base).

Does the lack of corporates in Campbelltown as opposed to balmain/city play a part in their reluctance to adopt the place FT?

Probably also a case or knowing there wont attract any outside talent to the club if they are 100% Campbelltown based. Easier to attract players if they are inner west

I was just in the gong for 9 days and didnt see the Dragons train there at all in that time. Have they moved all training back to Kogorah? Maybe same issue, players not wanting to travel a whole hour to work!
