I can understand the backlash that has ensued out of this.

However, one thing that sticks out for me is why was there no backlash against Billy Birmingham (12th man) when he would make fun of the Islander names in his comedy skits?

12th man is getting pretty long in the tooth now. Much more PC now than it was back then.

Because it's clearly a comedy and he hasn't put out new material for years. 15 years ago Erin may have gotten away with this but given she's gone after people for being not up to her standards then she has to be held accountable to those same standards.
