I have seen in more than one thread that Leeds were preoccupied with next week's match against Manly, rather than the contest against Wigan. I really find that hard to believe. These are professional athletes - their only concern should be with the task at hand. If that indeed were the case - that they were preoccupied - I would not hold out much hope for them this season if they can't stay focussed on what is before them. But I'm pretty sure that was not the case. Perhaps, on the day, Wigan were the better club and they were able to win the game, rather than Leeds lose it.

Matter of opinion really. I'm not suggesting Wigan wouldn't have won had the WCC not been this week. They were very good. However, they did not make leeds make uncharacteristic errors like dropping the ball or jumping out of the line. It's very easy to criticise professionalism, but at the end of the day, one game offers 2 points while winning the other allows you to call yourselves the best rl club in the world. Given that Leeds won the GF having not beaten any of the sides in the top 6 until the last week of the regular season, as a leeds fan, one would hope they have some experience in performing when it matters most.

Surely of all fans, a wire fan should have learnt not to write off this Leeds side! ;-). As a fan, it's pretty strange era where you have absolutely no idea what you are goingto get from your team. Haven't seen quite as much dropped ball from a Rhinos side for a while, but perhaps a few players were preoccupied with the bigger tie next week. Be intruiging to see how Manly approach the game. No trial matches at all is an interesting choice.

As for the other games - Bradford surprised me with that result and it's a bit concerning we're seeing big scores already. Having said that, I've no time for Widnes, so I won't lose sleep

True, and i did say Wigan found form in a week so maybe Leeds can. Just a bit concerned that you looked a bit rubbish and its nice when a super league team beats a NRL one. You seemed to have problems tracking Tomkins so if Manly use Stewart in that way it could be a problem for you.

Other than playing Saints in finals though Leeds don't have that good of a record in big finals. You would be fine against St George, but Manly don't have that Red Vee you like beating...

As for the big scores, the Warrington-London game was an 80+ point win last year, and the Broncos definately competed more this year so they will have closer games. Widnes are rubbish at the moment and are going to concede more than 66 points on more than one occasion this year.

Don't mind a top 4 team beating a bottom club buy a fair few, we know we don't have the depth of the NRL. The worry is when the top teams are beating upper mid tabled teams by big scores. Thats not happened yet and games have been close.

Charnley really strikes me as a player you'll watch tapes of in 30 years and go wow, legend... then again so does the whole Huddersfield backline and others mainly from Leeds, Wire and Saints. The level coming through is great to watch.

Yeah that's a fair call, though I'd rather play against Stewart that Tomkins. Few teams track Tomkins well these days. Literally no idea what to expect. Watkins and Hardaker being mooted as the centre pairing. Will pose more threat than two second rows in Hauraki and Ablett, but i do worry about their defence against Lyon and Matai. Anyways, going off topic. Looking forward to the season progressing and seeing some games on fast and hard grounds. Some quality backline talent in SL this year, as has been said already

Sucks to be Widnes right now....
Like I said after round one, they will struggle to win more than a couple of games. Bradford also being flogged. I feel these two teams are going to be exposed all season. Sounds like a good game at Hull KR though.

Hull KR 36-36 St Helens FT.

Foster lands a penalty to square it up with the last kick of the game.

Other scores:

Bradford 16-54 Wigan
Widnes 18-38 Salford

Hull vs London kicks off in an hour.

Few picks from the Bulls-Wigan game. The less said about Bradfords defence the better though. It was like a 3 year old had tried to draw a line.

Interesting that Saints deservedly receive praise for their youth policy but when they scrap that like today (7 overseas players) they can't even beat an understrength Hull KR. I don't know how guys like Flannery keep getting picked.

I haven't seen the team lists but weren't Saints understrength as well? I know Gaskell was missing.

They started with Hohaia at 6, Wheeler on the bench and Makinson didn't even make the team. Pretty poor selection policy from Royce. I don't know how they can justify giving a 4 year deal to Hohaia, I reckon that will come back to haunt them.

I agree. He's no playmaker that they seemed to sign him for. Im not sure he's even as good a full back as Paul Wellens. The only reason he got so much game time for the Kiwi's was because they didnt have anyone else in that position since Webb did his back. As soon as Locke came along he was gone.

Widnes getting bashed by Salford at home doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. Could they eclipse the Leigh team of 2005 for futility?

No Makinson? FFS. Unfortunately it's time for Wellens and Gardner to collect their retirement packages elsewhere, let the kids step up.
