You should listen to a band called Katatonia. I think they'd be right up your ally. Viva Emptiness is the album that springs to mind right now.

Also maybe some doom. There are some great doom death bands around but you may not be a fan of the vocals so maybe some basic doom music which can be very atmospheric. Type O Negative for example.

Maybe not doom. I don't like my music to be all doom and gloom. lol. I actually have a real thing for alot of female singers. Rock chicks I like. Don't think there are heavy metal chicks.

In the rare occasions I have actually listened to Evanescence, it literally cuts through my eardrums, her voice is painful to say the least.

Love the new album.. Her voice is awesome, it's what stands the band apart from others..

She will have a great solo career in the near future i would expect.

Its funny how perceptions or ear drums for that matter, differ isn't it? ;-)

I really like her voice when she sings:
'All That I'm Living For,
All That I'm Dying For,
All That I can't ignore,
Alone at Night'

Yes I think she'd be cool as a solo artist. With her piano skills and melancholy haunting voice. She'd be unlike anyone else.

Geez I don't know. The image, the style. I like the music since they first came to prominence in 2003. The music style has changed a bit since Ben Moody left the band but its still good. I like the dark feel of the songs but still it has positive messages in the lyrics. The 'Everybody's fool' video made fun of shallow materialistic type girls. I can relate to the feel of the music because I've been depressed before and also have struggles with addiction or I've contemplated suicide before but happy to say I'm ok now. Its not just the guitars and riffs that are important to me, its the passion and emotion of the singing and the lyrics. The music is real to me and doesn't pretend to be something its not. That's just my opinion, but I'm happy with it.

I recommend, in all seriousness, you check out The Butterfly Effect if you haven't already. Atmospheric, uplifting, awesome lyrics and vocals...I think they'd be right up your alley tbh...

I still don't see what image has to do with music.

If I want atmosphere I listen to Devin Townsend - and he is NOT a pretty man.

The two don't have to go together but I can't help it with Amy Lee. I like the music and I enjoy looking at her. That's something I can't escape from
