But this is all good, but it makes the NRL lazy, coz instead of the NRL creating a new team for brisbane, they'll just be handing out a fake licence, thats just a bit of paper, that just says "you're in"
they need to be involved, i feel they should enter 2 teams there, one being the Brisbane Dolphins with the hand out licence, the other a Western Corridor team that they attempt to create, purpose built club for Suncorp as the 2nd brisbane team, (dolphins can play suncorp for 6-8 games, the rest between redcliffe and sunshine coast)
The Broncos would have aneurisms.

Well theyve had the market all to themselves for too long now the BRL had 8 teams in brisbane, before them, im just saying 3 teams would give some good derbies and keep suncorp busy every weekend

I don't care about the Broncos, in fact I hate the bastards. I'm just pointing out they'll have aneurisms if not one but two new clubs start up in their patch. And they do appear to exert considerable influence over this game. So my feeling is we'll see Redcliffe and that's all for a few years as far as Brisbane goes.

Actually No, they had to create the club from scratch and amalgamation of the BRL, (well sort of, player wise like reds/mariners to storm) so redcliffe already has been around for more than 70+ years, the paper licence was just another way to state the NRL doesnt have to lift a finger, and just hand them an entry key

It should also be pointed out that the Penrith Panthers pre-date the Carolina Panthers by a good 25 years, so maybe the Americans pinched our name rather than the other way around.

Brisbane Wests were also called the Panthers, but that name was not adopted until 1968.

University of Pittsburgh have been known as the Panthers since about 1900 and they were pretty huge for a long time though just another team these days.

Like i said in earlier posts, the 1st case of Rugby League pinching Mascot names from American sports was Illawarra Steelers in 1982

Apparently the first Cleveland pro team was known as the Panthers (pre the Browns).
It is also a popular name in high school football, Eg: The Permian Panthers (famous for the Friday Night Lights movie). Now I am just showing off dorky American Football knowledge.

Just on the Broncos, they weren't even the most popular bid.

Hell, up until the last monent, Jeans West was the bid the QRL were going to ratify. Quayle and Arko had all but accepted it, abiding by the QRL.

Nek minnit, Brisbane Broncos was the frontrunner and winner.

To get the QRL's support the Broncos offered the QRL and BRL clubs a bunch of money and made a bunch of promises that the Jeans West bid couldn't/wouldn't match.
Once they got the license the relationship between the QRL and Broncos soured really quickly and they ended up not having to keep a most of those promises.

Also it isn't really right to say that the Jeans West bid was the most popular bid, they were more or less neck and neck with the Broncos, but the big advantage that the Broncos had over Jeans West bid was that the Broncos were owned by Queenslanders where the Jeans West bid was going to be owned by people from outside of Queensland. For some reason the QRL and people from Brisbane didn't like the idea of the local NSWRL club being owned by 'outsiders'.

I’m putting a vote in for Port Brisbane Destroyers.

Based out of East Brisbane/Bulimba/Carindale but playing solely out of Suncorp. Still attached to inner Brisbane but a brand new franchise that could leverage off the QRL clubs like Easts Tigers and Manly-Wynnum Seagulls as feeders. Maybe even conduct their training out at those grounds until a Red Hill-style setup is established.

I'd like to see some green in there somewhere tho, no QLD team has green, and all of them have gold/yellow as a part of there colors, canberra is Lime green and White plus blue and gold as a secondary trim, so as long as gold and green are the main you can still be diverse enough, even adding black like you showed here, won't interfere with a new perth team of black and gold with red as secondary
