Expansion Team Names

Ranking the historic/existing expansion team names (they aren't good):

Raiders
Knights
Mariners
Broncos
Cowboys
Crushers
Titans
Seagulls
Giants
Eagles
Warriors
Storm
Reds
Rams

I would say there is a history of choosing lame names based off NFL teams or some other vanilla criterion. I like Seagulls and maybe Knights. The rest suck. Titans, Broncos and Cowboys are the worse.

Nah, I think the quality of names is about their grouping.

Perfect = Animal names that are uniquely relevant to the area (eg: Eels, Rabbitohs, Sea Eagles)

1. Reds
2. Seagulls

Great = regular animal name (you can never go wrong with an animal mascot)

3. Rams
4. Broncos (should have been Brumbies)
5. Eagles

Alright = Humanoid mascots that are specifically relevant to the club culture

6. Warriors
7. Steelers
8. Knights
9. Mariners (The club rightly copped a lot of shit, but the branding wasnt too bad. Would have made for a good GC merge)
10. Storm (not my favourite, but probably the cleverest name I have seen)
11. Cowboys (Smart to go for the Rural imagery, but should have gone for some Australiana; Drovers or something)
12. Crushers
13. Giants (saved by the sweet logo)

Shit = humanoid that is random and irrelevant

14. Titans

Jokes aside its actually a catchy name, an animal mascot, and Australian (which we are lacking in a bit), so it could work

Yep, very Australian, very unique and closer to animal than human (which makes it a much better blank slate to build a club image)

Mythical creatures are great for club brands. Like the Australian version of “the Dragons”

The next Brisbane team should be an animal they haven't got much animal representation, as previously mentioned - I like Brisbane Bowerbirds.

combine with a previous post suggestion of Butchers.

Brisbane Butcherbirds, black and white.

crowd would probably shorten to Butchers or ‘Birds anyway for cheers / yells

So many good ideas coming through.

Just for my 2 cents, I would prefer to steer away from birds and humanoids if we could. I feel that aquatic mascots are under-represented (basically only the sharks and eels) and given that Australia is an island nation and some unique marine life I think we could have at least one if not 2 more.

I mean, pre-super league/mergers we had 4 bird-related mascots (Roosters, Sea Eagles, Seagulls and Magpies) and there is and has been a huge representation of humanoid ones (Raiders, Knights, Cowboys Storm [kind of given their mascot], Titans, Warriors, Steelers).

Just a personal preference of mine.

Yeh true, but shouldn't be an issue a new team using Brown and White since Penrith have given it up.

I may be in the minority but the right shade of brown & white is a great combination.

Problem is/was Sugar bush is more of a North Queensland thing. Bundaberg has some sure but that's borderline "South Queensland". In saying that Broncos aren't any more relevant to Brisbane than Sugar Cane.
I heard there was a mix up between cowboys and crushers brands, before they were rolled out in 95, it was meant to be South Qld Cowboys, and North Qld Crushers, which makes sense to me, regarding sugar cane in the north and south qld vs broncos

The Cowboys and Crushers were independent entities that designed their own brands independent of each other. In other words there's no way that their brands were mixed up and swapped by accident .

BTW I can't believe so many people liked that post...

Clearly bullsh*t but it would have been great to swap the 2...

NQld repping the rural, agricultural economy
SQld telling the Broncos to F*ck ‘emselves

Given the demise of SQld, im glad the Cowboys brand survived

I like the Marlins idea. Plenty of marlin fishing off the East Coast (I can't speak for the west.). Crocs is always good (and no basketball team to lay claim to it now).

Is anybody else warming to the idea of the Titans partially shifting to Brisbane. We could wait around for ever for an actual expansion team to be done perfectly.

Given that C19 means we aren't going to 17 teams any time soon I think it should happen.

If done right, it would work long term (with short term pain).
Keep the badge and name but re-jig it to be more unique and Queensland'ish. Example: call them the South Queensland Crimson Titans and get rid of all the blue. Same badge but colours of Red and Yellow.

Keep 4 games per year on the Gold Coast which I think is plenty.

(I have always thought the name Titans was so bland, NFL like and derivative but it can be made good and unique just by adding a colour to it whilst retaining a link to its foundation)
