It's only the first game of the season and everyone's writing off Burt already. We should wait till next week and see how he performs on a drier track.

Very good point.

If there's one player in the comp whose game is most dependent on a dry track, it's Luke Burt.

Basically anyone little with good footwork, and that includes Sandow. Big guys with good footwork (e.g. Hayne, Tonga, Hodges) can rely on their power game in the wet but Burt and Sandow don't have that to fall back on.

If we get a dry track/ he doesnt have to make a tackle or catch a high ball/ we don't need backs taking hitup pressure off the forwards/ someone creates a chance for him to show his smarts and finish off a try untouched... then he is a valuable member of this team. And all of you who say otherwise are assholes.

Mate he's been terrible for the last 3 years. Should of been moved on at the end of 2009. He just won't get in the physical contest. Wingers who are just finishers & support players are well & truly dead in 2012. They also need to be able to take pressure off the forwards by doing dummy half runs, defusing cross field bombs and sting in defence. Burt is inept at all of these because he's physically not up to it. Watch everytime he gets tackled he gets pushed back 5 metres.

^that's a good callout.

back in the 80's before sport science and when footballers had part time jobs, you could accomodate a bloke on the wing who was just fast or small and skillful because the rest of the squad was nowhere near as athletic and cardio capable.

unless those small and skillfull blokes today are capable of playing halfback or hooker, they just don't belong in the modern game anymore

Was interesting to hear that Roberts pulled his quad around the 30 minute mark, not after halftime.

Really? Name the other 5 better wingers at our club...

Hayne ;-)
Sio
Tonga, W
Tonga, E
Morgan

Have all played wing in first grade - two of them have played wing at rep level.

I'd even say Cheyse Blair, Taulima Tautai and a couple of the kids in NYC are better wingers than Luke Burt.

I'd rather we play Fui on the wing than Tautai. He's probably the worst winger we've used in the past decade.

He's always been a good tryscoring winger. But we've got the halves now that we don't need wingers who can make a try out of nothing. Not if they can't bring the ball out of our half, compete in the air and defend the line.

That list isn't up to date. Burt was our leading try scorer last year with 10, followed by Hayne and Ben Smith who each scored 7. It shows just how bad our attack was last year.

Burt scores tries from great anticipation not always something out of nothing, other wingers could learn a lot from him.

the other 3 tries were scored when he was playing fullback, this is just a list of our wingers from last year
