Not so sure about the "influential" comment, but the above certainly carries some weight.

And they should not scoff.

I apologise I haven’t had a chance to read all of the posts here…I was there on Saturday and I feel a little let down by what happened and the way our club was represented as well. If the club has a good reason, and I’m sure they do, for why the players were allowed to leave early while other teams were still there, I’ll be happy to accept it.

But because I haven’t heard anything, I don’t have anything else to fall back on.

Because it was held in Homebush, about 10mins drive from Parramatta Stadium, Parramatta Leagues, Parramatta everything, I am thinking that this was practically a cheap advertisement for the local team (and a team who will play a few home games out of that stadium), with the backing of the NRL. There were of course going to be more Parramatta supporters there on the day than any other team, and there were a lot.

This could have been a good time to get the locally based rugby league supporters who are a little tired of travelling to other parts of Sydney.

Some Parramatta supporters will change clubs.

If the club is lacking financial support, getting fans would be a good start – I’m also thinking that sponsors want to be on board with a team that gets more than 5000 to a home game, and also a few prime time Friday night TV games.

I did also hear some positive feedback about the extra work some of our players were doing on the field, but it seems that there is a lot more negative opinions out there.

I don’t want to blame anyone and I don’t know who was responsible for the players movements, and as I said I am happy to accept an explanation, we’d just like one.

If any volunteers are needed for events at the club, if available I would be happy to help.

its not just the likes of the fan day. The club used to make an effort for interstate fans and hold autograph signing sessions and open training sessions where the fans got to mingle with the players after training when interstate. One example was when they sat at tables in Chermside shopping center talking to fans and I got to take my daughters along to see them.

Parra up here in Brisbane would have been close to the second most supported team apart from Brisbane. By neglecting the fans in this way the younger generations won't be attracted and numbers will drop.

Its obvious that the club does not value these types of events either in Sydney or other states like they used to. Its a shame. But it has been happening slowly but surely in the last 3-4 years.

Looks like all the club is interested in doing is beating it's chest about what it thinks it did right:

EELS ON SHOW AT NRL CENTENARY FAN DAY
4 February 2008

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels were the centre of attention for supporters at the NRL's Centenary of Rugby League Fan Day at ANZ Stadium.

A large number of the more than 15,000 strong crowd on hand wore Parramatta colours, with over a quarter of those registered listing the Eels their favourite team when filling out the registration form.

Eels players spent a large portion of the afternoon talking with fans and signing autographs, while they also took part in skills and drills clinics, kicking contests, and the NRL's 400 player photograph.

The Eels stand was also well frequented across the day with all posters in stock going within 30 minutes of opening.

Some 2,000 Parra TV flyers were also handed out to those in the crowd. For more information please visit www.parratv.com.au.

Sparky looks very... feminine from up close. Something about the mascara and dimpled smile?

Not too worried about three players missing the photo, if they had their reasons and it was all cleared. Am worried at the whole team skipping some agreed activities on the day by the bus leaving early?

As for the wider issues, I remember we were on top of the game in terms of fan relations in years gone by, and I particularly remember the efforts of Trish being a highlight of that era. So many fan-club interaction opportunities back in those days, publicity that creates additional interest among fans, which you'd think directly translates to gate monies and merchandise.

Well done to those doing the work in getting that report to completion stage, it should make some difference in some way. And following Hellsy's recruitment efforts there'll be a whole lot more of us than ever before qualified to vote at football club AGMs shortly if progress in fan relations isn't up to what other clubs seem to easily achieve...

While the players were at the booth of course there was alot of people there
Maybe we should have taken photos of it when they weren't.
For the posters to be not only 2007's but to be gone within 30mins surely an intelligent person would have thoght to have something else on offer?? The other clubs seem to have an intelligent person with foresight

To Be honest, I wonder if there is enough though going into it at the moment. I don't want to type to much as I have some very enjoyable Stomach cramps today but, its those extra 5% things that we are missing, Apart from our own events.

Trish now works for the NRL 'One Community' and is doing a bloody good job from what I hear too. No wonder she got out of the Eels

I just think that the Eels marketing team underestimated the importance of the event. I didn't even know it was on until the day before.

Really?
It has been talked about for the last year and was pretty well advertised on television.

I saw no ads on the TV. And I only knew it was on because of Gallop on the BSB. There are some things for the centenary of RL but nothing that made mention of this event that I saw.
