As I said, it's a shame Fui appeared so dismissive of it, but I'll take that as that just being Fui. :|

Suity

I give the benefit of the doubt to FUI as I've seen him other interviews and the interviewer just ran out of questions to ask to keep the interview going.

Yesterdays Fan Day was an excellent day to attract new sponsors and reduce the signature line.

You can only get signatures if you are a paid up member - simple. If yiu are nit a member on the day, then put out and pay up.

And to make it easier for the players - have a bundle of presigned posters to hand alongs with some pre signed balls, jerseys and other memorabilia at there shop price.

The team has a stack of these ready throughout the year for sponsors, so no fuss if they not all sold on the day.

Kids who were catching player autographs were doing so with books and paper (no cards sighted in the playground) and the players should be cool about that.

This would allow them to mingle around and talk to their fans like Daniel Anderson was doing.

I'm sure that all good intentions were thought of in the planning of the day, but maybe next year they can take heed of all the positive news from last years one.

What is the current Eels definition of paid up member?

wow, nearly 2 hours with them inside a vip area?

tbh these things would be hard to organise and keep everyone happy
OK, just bringing EVERYONE up to speed on this one.....
That wasn't a "VIP" area - that was the official 'players-and-sponsors-and-council' season launch.. you know, the one that usually happens on a cruise with a thousand beers? I would like to think that more fans would be HAPPY they didn't get on the drink and make dickheads out of themselves in front of sponsors!!
As for bitching that they were in there for two hours? it was the two hours PRIOR to fan day officially starting?? People weren't even meant to be there to see them arrive!

Oakey told me that they got up and walked the line just after 3. He said they were finished by about 3.30.

They were getting back on track last year. An hour of players mingling, then over to the signing table. That did mean players were told to refuse autographs til they were at the table, which did come across as rude, but at least people did get to actually talk to them or have photos etc. Not just rush along a table like a line of cattle.
but they explained themselves and most people were happy enough to just take a photo and a conversation. Last years was fantastic - definatley set the benchmark.

People want things signed.

The problem is if they dont use a formal thing like the signing table, and the players just mingle and sign stuff get photos etc, then it's basically adults/teens that get stuff and the shy kids hanging on the edge of the crowd get nothing.
not always true. What needs to be done is clue the players up to keep an eye out for those kids and get them to ask the others to move aside for a second. Some players, like Luke, Ben Smith, Tim Mannah etc would do that anyone, but im sure your Fui's, Eric's and Nathan's would keep an eye on it if they were told... also - there's an army of volunteers around the fan days, and they could always help!

nrl players are like chooks.

you can treat them like the battery hens on fan day and tie them up to a table and they will produce the autographs and photos, but they will be unhappy and stressed.

or you could treat them like free range hens on australia day and let them roam freely around an area, producing an autograph and photo for them that wants one.

generally, the free range hens appear to be happier and more productive than the battery hens. same for the players.

Best analogy i've EVER HEARD my friend!! Well said!!

You had 2 options yesterday, line up to get autographs or watch the entertainment. hopefully it goes back to the stadium next year where people in the line might actually see some entertainment.

Well I finally flew back to Brissy last night after spending my first day in Parra since I was a baby and my main goal was to FINALLY get my jersey signed and mission accomplished. :D

I got in line at 11am as I am pretty anal about getting things done and not missing out and it looks like I did the right thing, was a bit of a wait but well worth it in the end. All the players were happy enough to have a smile at the camera for me. Was really impressed with Justin Poore, he seemed to go out of his way to get to the people at the back of the line and he was the lone ranger in that regard to start off with.

BTW, anyone see that Cross Dressing Dude dancing up a storm in the park? Is this a regular occurance in Parra.

This guy tried to cut in line late in the day, stupidly he tried to cut in front of a well built Samoan bloke. after a few words the guy moved on.

I was in the line from around 11 as well. How far from the table were you

The thing that kills fan day is the numbers.

Over the past 3 years or so the numbers at these days has grown substantially and it becomes harder and harder to manage and make successful.

Unfortunately I think most players see the day as a choir then as part of their job, and that is probably fair enough in itself.

I like the idea of making it a members only day, and I think the players would also appreciate this.

and it would stop idiots who are just going to sell the sh*t on eBay - which the players would also appreciate!

How do you attract more members if days like these are closed events?

Mind you...sounds like yesterday wasn't a great advert to become a member.

I wouldnt like it to become a members only day.

We should throw the doors open to everyone and try and get members signed up on the day.

I would also be mortified if we turned events like fan days into elite events for members only. Stuff the families that cant afford memberships. Stuff the 12 year old kid that loves his/her footy but doesnt have a membership. Pay up or you don't get to come. Horrible idea.

Oh, and I'm a member.

Ideally, you'd have enough member events throughout the year that members dont really need to front up at a fan day to get their first of 10 things signed for the season.

it sounds like the best advert to membership there is all you need is someone walking the queue with flyers to tell people "if you become a member you can go to exclusive members only signings with queues less than half the size of this one.."
if they had a members vip express lane there i bet we would have got the 10,000 up on the day :D

I still think even if you closed it to members the lines still would be massive, we have round 8000 members? I'd leave it open to the public but at a better spot next year
