Yes i know they can be self-indulgent, but god damn it, who doesnt love a good guitar solo ? This is just a thread to list your favourites, whatever they may be. I'll start with -

Temple of the Dog - Reach Down. Best guitar solo of the early 90's imo. Mike McCready. (4:27 onwards in the clip)

none. guitar solos should be banned.

get back to your electric keyboard you goose.

back to the question,

for a song known for its sax riff the guitar solo in "baker street" by gerry rafferty is awesome.

billy duffy's effort on "wild hearted son" by the cult.

brian may on "one vision" by queen.

There Was a Time - Guns n Roses

The Drones - Oh My

Porcupine Tree - Light Bulb Sun

Jimmy Hendrix - Jam Back at House

Metallica - Welcome Home

Stairway to heaven - Dave Gohl cover

Opeth - The Grand Conjecture

Also i think Kirk from Metallica plays the most ear candy solos out of anyone. He may not be the fastest or whatever, but the stuff he plays sounds damn good.

Being a big fan of Queen, I could nominate any number of Brian May solos (either from the Queen catalogue or his solo work). Off the top of my head, I would say 'Heaven For Everyone', 'The Show Must Go On', 'The Hero' (off the Flash Gordon soundtrack cd), and maybe 'Killer Queen' ... with of course his solo from 'Bohemian Rhapsody' being probably his most well-known. From his solo work, I have always loved 'Resurrection', 'Last Horizon' (which is pretty much a guitar-solo song!), 'Someone To Die For' (Jimmy Gnecco + Brian May song for the 'Spiderman' movie), and Queen + Robbie Williams' version of 'We Are The Champions' (for the 'A Knight's Tale' movie).

Away from Brian May, I love the 'November Rain' solo from Slash, as well as the clips I've heard of him doing the theme from 'The Godfather'.
