If he has gone for $400k a year then good luck to him. I would refer to spend that money on a halfback.

I had breakfast with a parra trainer at the start of the year & we mentioned mateo. His exacts words were has the ptential to be anything but is too lazy. Same as inu. Unless cleary has them training like they have never trained before then i cant see the player coming out in him that we all want him to be.

I can't blame Feleti taking the money, I would have.

I blame the NRL / david gallop who don't reward clubs who produce players.

My pick of the players Parra should try to sign from the Storm would be Adam Blair and Sika Manu or Cooper Cronk. Blair is unbelievable and can play back row or prop equally as well, for mine in the top 4-5 forwards in the game and Sika is like watching another Fui reeking havoc every time he touches the ball. I also heard that he is not that highly paid at the Storm.

Cooper Cronk is a no brainer if we could afford/get him.

Warriors swoop on Parra stars

May 10, 2010 - 4:40PM

The Warriors have swooped on rival NRL club Parramatta's off-contract stars, signing lock Feleti Mateo and back Krisnan Inu to three-year deals.

In one of the biggest signing coups in the club's history, Mateo and Inu will link with the Auckland-based club until the end of the 2013 season.

The news came on the same day the club announced the re-signing of lock Micheal Luck for a further two seasons.

"Keeping Lucky was critical and being able to now confirm new signings like Feleti and Krisnan - as well as Steve Rapira (from North Queensland) - gives us a lot of confidence as we look forward," Warriors coach Ivan Cleary said.

"Feleti and Krisnan will add real quality and depth to our playing squad with their ability to slot into a number of positions.

"After signing high-profile players like Ruben (Wiki), Steve (Price) and Brent (Tate) from Australian clubs in recent years, it's encouraging for us as a club that we've succeeded in attracting Feleti and Krisnan to make the move."

Tonga captain Mateo, 25, and World Cup-winning New Zealand international Inu, 23, are two of the most talented attacking stars on the Eels' roster.

But their form, like Parramatta's, has been inconsistent and Eels CEO Paul Osborne said last month contract negotiations had been put on hold.

Mateo was reportedly offered a massive $400,000 per year to join the Warriors.

we'd probably still have to payu part of his contract anyway.

And given that Cayless is leaving, would need then not just to replace Cayless, but Poore as well.

I also think Poore has been pretty good the last few weeks and is getting some poor treatment from fans.

He is less than a dozen games into his parra career and people are saying let him go

Of course Poore is going well now it's rep season he wants his Sky Blue jersey back.

As for the losses both could be big but of the players off contact these two strike me as the biggest hot and cold players, if their confidence is up they'll be big losses but they could also be just as easily playing for the Auckland Vulcans next year

we definitely need a backrower infact I think we can do with 2 and a young outside back who's on the verge of breaking through, someone like Jake Mullany..

I think ur dreaming
Between inu mateo and cayless, theres lets say 1mil left in cap space
Add in an extra say 150k for morts and 125k for keatings upgrade
Another say 125 for Haynes
200k for tahu and maybe 50k for poore
That’s 650…plus we’ll need to sign or elevate 3 replacements for the 3 guys leaving that’s about 150 plus mayb an extra 80k for horos upgrade
Leaves possibly 95k from my numbers

Im probably being a tad pessimistic with these numbers
ok here goes, these figures are speculation from media and in here and from my calculations in trying to get our current playing roster to within $40k of the cap (see AGM thread):

We lose -
Cayless $400k
Inu $275k
Mateo $220k

We still have these as yet unsigned -
Grothe $200k
Horo $55k
Humble $55k
Keating $80k
Lasalo $55k
Mitchell $55k
Oake $80k
Etu $55k
Wright $55k

Downgraded contracts -
Hindy $150k
Burt $30k

That's $1.765m freed up and 12 vacant spots

Upgraded contracts -
Hayne $125k
Fui $50k
Morts $100k
Tahu $225k

Possible upgrades -
Horo $100k
KK $180k

Probable min contract signings (possibly still under contract?) -
Humble $55k
Lasalo $55k
Mitchell $55k
Etu $55k
Wright $55k

That's $1.055m used up
That leaves $710k and 5 vacant spots

Should be able to keep Grothe now, and based on his pre-injury form he should be kept, likewise Kris Keating.

Then as has been said get a rep class back rower and some blue chip outside back prospects who are ready to step up.

Forwards: Ohanlon, will most probably be in the top 25 next year.

Backs: Rory Brien is a decent 3/4. SIO will also make a good back up for the wing spot.

Is Lee Tamari any good???

O'Hanlon and Brien have another year in the NYC I believe but my info is that Lee Te Maari could be knights bound..

Lasalo $55k - re-sign (after Horo and KK are signed)
Mitchell $55k - re-sign (after Horo and KK are signed)
Oake $80k - Look outside before re-signing then see what the cap is like
Etu $55k - Look outside before re-signing then see what the cap is like

well we have them for this year so who cares for now..
Ive said it before-We should not of signed poore and tahu.
Loosing shacks after 10mins so he comes in for mateo.Inu is back up to grothe.
Where is the loss? We have J.Wright and i cant think of more than 3-4 years without parra producing a gun centre/wing.
MAteo loss but shacks comes in and im sure we can now sign 2 middle class back rowers.

True, Shackleton is still around, honestly I had forgotten about him but if he can come back from the injury it will help a lot to cover the losses however another back rower is still needed.

Ouch. Some parra fans can talk these losses down as much as they like which is understandable just what all supporters do, but losing both of these at once is a massive loss. As brilliant as hayne can be it makes you wonder if he's worth the money Parra re-signed him for when stuff like this happens, only compounded by paying overs for Poore and Shackleton. of paying overs. I get the feeling these won't be the only ones on their way out either.

Has Fui oficially re-signed yet? If he hasn't i think that's at least one positive to come out of this, at least there'll be more money to keep him.
