I would have accepted Inu going no worries , but WTF with Mateo as well ! A proven match winner & on his day the most gifted forward in our team , if not the game.

Not too mention we have been decimated by forward departures in the past 12mths, with pitiful signings like Poore to fill the void. We also lose Cayless, Hindy is a year older, Horo will forever be a fringe first grader at best....

Incredibly short-sighted decision by management once AGAIN!

It's official
http://www.parraeels.com.au/default.aspx?s=article-display&id=25495

Pirtek Parramatta Eels stars Feleti Mateo and Krisnan Inu have spoken exclusively on Eels Reels about one of the toughest days in their career.
Feleti Mateo and Krisnan Inu have both signed with the New Zealand Warriors for next year, with the Eels unable to hold onto the duo due to salary cap pressure.
“I had to tell team-mates, coaching staff and friends I’m moving on next year to the New Zealand Warriors,” Mateo says.
“It’s a very sad day because I’ve grown up in the area and always supported the Eels.
“It’s probably the saddest thing I’ve had to do in my football career so far.”
For Inu, who grew up with team-mates Jarryd Hayne and the Keating brothers, it will be like leaving a second family when he changes clubs at the end of this season.
“Like Feleti said to be leaving our home will be really hard… especially the boys and staff, they’re practically our family,” Inu explains.

How can you say it's short sighted? If the Warriors are willing to pay overs for a player then what can management do to stop them? You can't just sign a blank check when you've got to fit within a salary cap.

Horo-type players in this world are in abundance. Mateo's in this world are rare. X-factor's like him win you games.

Just been reading this thread and can't believe how everyone is so blasse about Mateo leaving.

I am absolutely shattered!

I agree that Feleti leaving is sad-same for Krisnan, not sure it is devastating, but he will be a loss. I hope he gets fit and does well as I think he is a very good person.

Anyway, as someone said to me today, who is in the know....1 Feleti equals 3 backrowers for what Worriers have paid for him. My big issue is who we sign to replace them, don't forget we lost Shackleton who did look good in the first 20 minutes of the season.

Hope the club comes out woth some positive news in the next few weeks.

If we're being fair dinkum, we're losing these two blokes because Anderson doesnt rate them as much as some of us do. It's his call and he'll live or die by the decision. There's been stories about Inu being shipped around to other clubs since anderson arrived.

You'd have to think there is some sort of plan on how to use the cash....and keep in mind the game has changed in terms of which may be available next year with the storm

It's a shame that they've had to leave, (for whatever reasons), but it's not the end of the world. Players come and go, and neither of these players have (IMO) lived up to the hype. If they leave and set the world on fire, good on them and good luck in the future but at the moment, they aren't worth shedding more than a couple tears over.

Both haven't kicked on as much as I expected. There is no way I would pay more then $250K for Mateo and $180K for Inu.

Cronk and Hodkinson would be my picks to replace them. I however have a feeling that we will sign O'Donnell. People putting sh*t on Poore have no idea.

Agree with you 100%. Poore is going ok and will get better once he gets a better understanding of the eels structure. Next year and this year we will have one of the best front row combinations in the game.

I am sad to see Mateo and Inu leave, would love to keep them but not at what is rumoured to be offered.

Mateo is brillant but he is not worth $400,000 as a forward. And Inu is getting better but obviously Anderson doesn't rate him.

Shackleton and Horo will replace mateo - they may not replace his brillance but will get the job done. Another thing as brillant as Mateo is when was the last time he won a game for us ?

I think we will need a cheap replacement for Inu.

Lets say we offered Mateo $275,000 and Inu $200,000 that would give us $475,000 to play with. With that money we could potentially get 3 players. 2 forwards and a cheap winger. Or we could make a play for big name storm player like Lima, Blair or Toleman for around $250 to $300 per year and still have enough for a couple of fringe players.

As a fan yes I am disappointed but it makes sense not to sign them.

My opinion of both Mateo & Inu are they are both overrated.
Parramatta get more value out of Jeff Robson than either of those two & are easily replaced.
With the Keatings, Horo, Shakleton & Tahu the Eels shouldn't panic just build around their strengths.

Horo is off contract for next season, no?

Melbourne or Manly could make a play for him - cheap but has potential. Offers that we may not be able to match or willing to pay. ala T-Rex.

We've just got to go hard to retain Oake then.

Very sad to see these 2 go.

Would this affect Hayne? I've seen youtube videos of these 3 together and they seem real close.

It might not affect him this year but next year when they are not there he could become a unhappy camper.

I think we will have big problems in the halves next year if we don't get someone decent.

KK is not signed as yet and I am not sold on Mortz just yet.

An injury in the halves next year will probably see Hayne move there.

at least both have their futures sorted now so can set their focus on winning a comp with parra.

Ps. I am tipping both will be homesick by rd 8 2011.
